“Tasty food with friendly service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 23, 2013 via mobile

Went for a group meal with colleagues. Atmosphere was buzzy and staff friendly & attentive. Varied menu with plenty of choice for vegetarians and several gluten-free options. Really tasty food, freshly prepared and locally sourced where possible (so we were told). Excellent value too!

“Private Party - great evening”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2013

We attended a private birthday party at The Whim Wham and had a great evening. The drinks were reasonably priced for a city venue, the gin cocktails were wonderful and the canapés which were served throughout the night were very tasty and thoughtfully prepared.
The trio of musicians added a great atmosphere and we were all pleased to have made the trip.
I can imagine that if you were local it could become a favourite.
The staff were welcoming and efficient and provide table service for drinks which in itself is novel and worked very well. No complaints at all

“Good idea, poorly executed...”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 19, 2013 via mobile

By lousy service, awful acoustics and a reek of cabbage from the kitchen.

More gin hovel, than palace. We went to chill out, chat and listen to a bluesy singer. We didn't try the cocktails although its a very tempting range of gin based tipples, going instead for good quality soft drinks.

The smell hit us as soon as we walked in, background music was appropriate for the theme but levels in that awful range of too loud to talk over, too quiet to dance to, and the second round of drinks was too slow in getting staff attention to take order and then being delivered.

The singer was ok, but suffered from mushy sound system/room acoustics.

No points for being a live music venue, but that's beside the point.

Just poor service and a bit smelly.

“Don't bother with the wine. Stick to gin.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 10, 2013

Such a shame to put only 3 stars but I have to be honest.
We booked our table and were seated by the window. Great, until we realised that was actually the gin parlour and nobody else was eating in there bar us. We couldn't hear the music and there was no atmosphere in the parlour, so not great. Cocktails were delicious. Menu was small but appealing (although didn't fancy any of the starters). Both ordered the pulled pork, one with mash instead of baked potatoes. Came in good time but I did look at my plate and think "is that it?" - could have been presented much better. Food was lovely.
Ordered wine. Oh dear lord why did we do that??? Firstly tried to order a large glass of wine and were told they only serve 175ml glasses. Odd for a restaurant trying to make a profit. Went for the Sauvignon. Absolutely disguising, tasted medicinal. Told waiter and he happily changed it. I asked for Chenin blanc instead but what he gave me tasted exactly like Pinot grigio ( the only other wine on the menu) and an extremely cheap one at that. We refused to drink it worrying we would get some echo falls style headache if we did. The menu boasts that their selection of wine is chosen by an independent wine shop. I dread to think what the rest of their stock consists of. As much as I wanted to try dessert I just wanted to get out of there. Staff were all lovely but unfortunately let down by the worst wine I have ever had in a restaurant and poor presentation.
