Review of Albert Square

Albert square is usually the centre of festivals and events in Manchester. From the Manchester International Festival (where this year there was an imaginative use of space, featuring an open-air raised bar and tent) to the Christmas Markets. Worth a visit.

There was a huge Christmas market in the squarw (closes at 9.30pm) as well as inside the town hall building (closes at 7 or 7.30pm). Very very festive, with lots of christmassy things on sales. The highlight was the food and drink - bratwurst, flammkuchen, spatzle, mulled wine, mead, irish coffee, hams, pates, cookies and lots and lots of other things I can't pronounce! Very much worth a visit! Very pretty lights and fantastic atmosphere!

Stalls in all areas even up near The Arndale centre, all types of food, ethic stalls, lots of Christmas trees, wreaths and outdoor decorations from wooden toadstools to wicker Reindeer and frosty penguins. I believe parking can be expensive. We travelled from Blackpool at 8.45, on arriving at Preston, the platform was pretty clear, we waited 20 mins, the train was nearly 10 minutes late, loads of people then descended, no consideration for others who had waited 30 mins and were trying to board an already rammed train, we then had to wait another 15 mins for another train which was still jam packed, a 39 min journey then took an hour with me having to stand with two children. Overall markets are good, but if you are travelling I would recommend staying overnight, I certainly will next time.

In my opinion, Albert Square is a fabulous Xmas Market--whilst the others are good, this one is special..Well worth a visit. Even just strolling around and taking in the atmosphere.

At other times of the year, The Albert Square is often putting on attractions--fairs, outdoor events or in marquees--So the Council use this space very well for the public.
Look out for anything going on here, as the setting is great--and especially at Xmas, the market was magical

Good mulled cider, nice ambience; coming up to Christmas so lovely, tasteful decorations. Yawning waitress wasn'tso great. and the second drink was sent backas it wasn't made as well as the first? Still menu looked good too. Will be back...
