“It does the job.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 21, 2013

It's a lovely, old building which is charming, but that comes with a certain rustic-ness. It was noisy, partly because it's on a central city road (partly also because I stayed on a Friday night), the room had only 1 power point and the lift could only take my bag; I had to take the stairs.

Lockers were outside in the main hall areas, not in my room, the curtains didn't seem to fit properly and the shower door was coming off. But, my room was spacious.

I was pleasantly surprised that I could have breakfast, even though I was leaving at 4.45am. This is great, but perhaps a condiment could be provided to go with the toast and butter?

To be honest, I've stayed at better hostels, but Hatter's Manchester is clean and comfortable. It's also in a central great location and just a 5 minute walk from Piccadilly Station.

Room Tip: A room that faces Port St will probably be a bit quieter.

The staff are very friendly & helpful, the beds are reasonably comfortable, cleanliness of he hostel was good. Basic breakfast provided in a pleasant relaxed common room area. Showers where hot and happily surprised it was hot straight away. It's in a great location. For how cheap it is it's a great deal

I've been there just for one night but I founded it really perfect.
It's really closed to the Picadilly train station so you can go walking.
The staff was very nice and they gave to me excelent tips.
Showers were clean even at 10am when they usually are not.
Common area and kitchen are quite spaciosus even when there are hundreds of Spanish people waiting for the football match
I defintely enjoyed my stay in Hatter Hostel
Highly recommended!

Arrived to no one at reception and had to stand outside for ten minutes ringing the bell and calling the landline until someone decided to appear in the reception area.

Hardly had any sleep at all due to the thin windows in 202. It's right next to a pedestrian crossing which is constantly beeping, roadsweepers, pissed people shouting, sirens at various times of the night, snoring, people constantly walking in and out of the room all night. You get what you pay for, this is a budget hostel.

It's quite dirty and suffers from a
serious lack of investment. It could do with some money being spent on sorting the problems that numerous people have mentioned in these reviews.

If you want sleep spend a little more and go somewhere else.

I stayed here over a weekend during Grimmfest and barely got any sleep. It was noisy outside until about 2am and people were constantly coming into the room at all times of night, waking me up every time they closed the door. It was quite stuffy in the rooms too, but having the windows opened would mean more noise.

I stayed in a 10 bed female dorm. There are no lockers in the room which meant climbing over big suitcases and there very few power points, so we kind of had to share those. Also there was a mirror miles away from the powerpoints which caused difficulty for people straightening and styling hair etc. It was clean and nice enough though.

I used the wifi in the cafeteria quite a bit and it was constantly dropping out. It was free, but still annoying. Breakfast was just cereal and bread and washing had to be done yourself (I hadn't stayed in a hostel where you had to do the dishes before, it's fine, but just pointing it out).

The location wasn't too bad. I chose this place because it was within walking distance from the station and the theatre where Grimmfest was being held. There were some cafes and shops quite close by so everything was close.

Overall it was a decent hostel, but the sleep quality was so bad that if you really value your sleep, I recommend staying somewhere else.

I've traveled extensively throughout Europe and I've never seen a place like this...
I stayed in an 8-bed dorm for 2 nights and I can honestly say I would have slept better in an airport departures lounge! The large window which spanned the full breadth of one wall had no curtains - only vertical office-style blinds which did not close and excluded absolutely no light from the room. The room also overlooked a busy street which created a lot of noise (which is beyond the hostel's control I will admit). There were 2 plug sockets behind one of the bunks which were shared between all residents in the dorm - hardly ample in this day and age.
The common areas of the hostel including the bathrooms and showers were fairly clean and well maintained, however this was one of the only positive points I have to report about this place.
There was no excuse for the fact that the windows had no curtains or blinds to keep the light out in the prison-cell style dorm!

Will definitely not be returning or recommending to anyone I like!
