“I'd stay here again”
Reviewed August 18, 2013

Hatters was a good value, staff were helpful and friendly, and its in a good location. The atmosphere was really fun; people were always in the common room and it was easy to meet other travelers. My only complaint was that when I went in August some activities like pub craws were not going on because staff were on vacation. The tour of manchester offered was a good way to see all of the main attractions and find out about good food and pubs.

Stayed here for 3 nights, was easy to find and good location, very central, close to supermarkets, bar, pubs, shopping, transport etc. we stayed in a 8 bed dorm, was big and spacious, clean, beds were resonably comfy, our room was to the front of the hostel so you could hear all the traffic and the noise of somewhere crossing the street and anyone buzzing to get into the hostel so bring your earplugs! But no real drama. The bathrooms was great, clean, hot showers. Breakfast included- your basics but tea/coffee and toast supplied all day. Big common room, computers and TV room. Staff friendly and helpful. Only negative for us was that there was 1 power point in the room for 8 people really frustrating and all the power points downstairs in common room were always occupied! And no powerpoints in the bathrooms. But overall good stay, would stay again and recommend others:)

Room Tip: Not the room near the TV room and front of hostel. Bring your earplugs!

Really great location - walking distance from train station and major city centre sites.

Free breakfast, free wifi on main floor. No lockers in rooms so make sure your luggage is locked. There are lockers available on the main floor (being your own lock).

The rooms were clean, single sex dorms and floors. However, I found the room very nosy. Be sure to being ear plugs of you are a light sleeper.

I would stay here again for sure.

Overall, we had a good time at this hostel. It is in a good location, just a five minute walk from the Piccadilly Central station. The staff is very friendly. They organize pub crawls and can direct you towards live music. However, I found it very loud. There is a rule about no noise after 11, but the boys in the dorm next dorm didn't seem to care. Plus there is the road noise of people coming back from the bar. I'd stay again, but I'd inquire about the location of the room. Ideally, you're there to stay out all night and sleep during the day, in your own room, when it's quieter.

Room Tip: Your own! Plus the higher up, the better. There is a lift to assist with bags.

I spent a night in 18 beds mixed dorms. The room was big a there was enough room between beds to leave a luggage and to use the room without bothering others. The beds were solid, you can turn yourself without waking up the one under or above you. The hostel is very clean, male showers are absolutely superb and social place is big and nice.

This hostel is within a short walking distance of many of the local amenities and attractions - only five minutes from Piccadilly train station, the bus station and also the main night life areas, yet far enough away that you aren't troubled with noise.

I was visiting Manchester to take part in the Great Manchester Run and although I could have travelled in on the day, I wanted to stay in a hostel to see if I could 'still cope' with them and then possibly go travelling this summer.

As with all hostels, the atmosphere does depend on the other people there, but as hostels go, Hatters run this hostel well, providing free wifi, tea, coffee and toast all day long, and a large enough area for people to mix and mingle.

Despite being a weekend, I was able to get an early night on the Saturday prior to the race and although people do come and go all night, the hostel is just a base to stay and provided all the facilities and amenities that are needed. There were a number of other people there for the race which was pretty cool.

The shower and bathroom facilities were kept clean although the showers could only be turned on or off - temperature could not be adjusted and to be honest they were quite hot.

I would stay there again and recommend it to others.
