“Fantastic place to stay in the center of Manchester”
Reviewed April 21, 2013

This hostel is only 5 minutes from "everything" :) Clean rooms and common places, free wi-fi, very delicious breakfast. The atmosphere depends on people, so I felt OK ! If you like "industry" cities and architecture you should go to Manchester. You can walk along canals and see beautiful old, brick buildings, factories and modern houses in "industry" style, museums: I recommend War Museum, The Lowry, MOSI and Royal Exchange Theatre - very original place to watch spectacles. Manchester fantastic place for 3 days. There is a lot of gigs, so you can join city-break with stunnig concert !

This is a unique hostel place. They are very good and friendly. They charge economically and services are good with tight security. They don't allow non guests to enter at nighttime, when security is more. Women are safe, its best place to stay if they are alone.
I love that they provide free breakfast, bread and juices all day.

Love the relaxed, friendly vibe about this place and the location - smack bang in the middle of the artsy, alternative Northern Quarter. The free breakfast was great too - just what I needed after a night out in Manchester!

Apart from the fact that it was a little annoying that the timer on the showers only lasted about 10 seconds (so multiple button pressing required whilst trying to shampoo hair, shave, wash etc), I didn't really dislike anything.

The only thing I will say though is that - certainly when I stayed - this is a party hostel. There were people coming and going throughout the night, including myself and my friend! So this is not the place to stay if you want an early night or a peaceful night's sleep. As my friend and I just stayed here for a weekend, it wasn't a problem for us.

Very good accomodation for 3 or more days. Nice and comfortable rooms, my single room was a bit small but comfortable, I didn't like the heat too close to my head during the night, which made me dream to be in a desert! Nice living room, but smelly, I would advice to open the windows from time to time. The price is fair.

good : location, perfect! staff , perfect! cleanliness, all good! I'll say it´s a perfect hostel

BUT
bad : room looks lile we are straight on the street NOISY, no curtain in the room, shower clean but too basic, breakfast? a joke!

i've paid 25£ the bed in a 16bed room. i stayed only one night! and i assure you, you'll be in the best quarter of MRC! but for a long stay, i'll advice to take an hotel for the price!

if i compare this price and quality to other hostel in europe, it´s definitly more expensive than the price you'll pay in brussel, berlin or munich... and you are simply in Manchester
should be around 20? for this quality!

The only hostel I have ever been to with a GOOD bed! The bunks didn't creak or move at all.

Overall, it was pretty decent. The staff were friendly, the location was perfect (near great little bars, etc) and there was plenty to do.

The rooms weren't cleaned before we arrived (nor during our visit), so that was the only let down.

I stayed at Hatter's on Newton St over a weekend (Thursday - Sunday) firstly it is an easy 10-15 min walk from Shudehill Bus station. Check in was a smooth process. I had a single room booked, the room was located on the 5th Floor. The way hatters is set out is female toilets / shower rooms were located on 2nd & 4th Floor with male toilet/shower rooms being on the 3rd & 5th floor. This wasn't to much of an issue, as there is a disabled toilet on each floor which could be used. Bathrooms were clean and always had plenty of toilet paper etc.
My room was a basic single, there was a small dressing table, wardrobe unit and a tv - the remote for the tv required a £5 deposit.
There is a complimentary breakfast consisting of cereals, yoghurt, fruit juice, which compared to other places they provide a good selection. Breakfast ran from 07:30 - 10 or 10:30 which gives you a decent time frame and there was always enough cutlery, plates etc. Tea, coffee and toast are free all day. The hostel was very clean. My only annoyance was on my first night i had to ring the security entry button for at least 15 mins before someone let me in, other nights there was not an issue. There is WIFI in the common area however i did not use this. There was some street noise and occasionaly you could hear people coming in from a night out but otherwise the hostel was very quiet. The rooms are well spaced out which i think reduced the noise.
The location was perfect for exploring Manchester, very close to Piccadilly Gardens, Arndale centre, lots of excellent pubs near by - no need to go to the expensive places.
