Description: You will find The Old Wellington (est. 1552) in Manchester within a short stroll of Manchester Cathedral, Victoria Station and Exchange Square - however, you won't find another like it. Step in to discover a traditional pub of unique character, revered for its eclectic range of real ales and its quality pub food, which are served - as they should be - with a generous measure of famous British hospitality. The Old Wellington is one of many rare gems in the Nicholson's collection of great British pubs, reputed for their distinctive buildings, intriguing history and vibrant atmosphere.

The Old Wellington is a charming old pub located at Shambles Square right by Manchester Cathedral. This unique building was built in 1552 and is the oldest building of its kind in Manchester. It’s an absolute must see, and great location for a pint or a quick lunch break in-between shopping sessions. We tried the fish & chips and their seasonal chicken & avocado salad – both were good.

This central pub offers a friendly welcome and a range of decent ales. The food proved to be fairly good and generally it's a good all-rounder. It's not outstanding, but it's consistently good and at a modest price...

An afternoon at the exchange theatre we decided to eat out before going home , it’s a while since eating at the wellington ,it hasn’t improved much it’s a lovely building but the food was dull and not cheap ,I had Hunters chicken with sides of onion rings and house salad, the salad looked like it had been thrown on the plate not appetising at all a tiny piece of chicken none of it was that good.
It’s not a place I wanted to linger maybe needs an update ,the menu definitely needs an up lift . Back to the Crown and Anchor next time pub grub at its best with great atmosphere.

Travelled up to Manchester to meet our pilot daughter who flew in from Hong Kong. First time to this destination so we didn’t know where to visit. Stumbled on this lovely and lively historical pub close to Manchester Cathedral so went for dinner. Very friendly staff, good service and a good meal at reasonable prices. Had a 25% discount voucher so even better. Will definitely go again.
