Owner description: Manchester’s Chinatown is one of the largest outside of China. It’s home to shopping and restaurants and is the center of the city’s Chinese community.

I love Manchester's Chinatown!

I quite often stay on Portland Street, so I'm only a stone's throw away and it's great to wander round, taking in the atmosphere. The Arch is brilliant. There are benches near the foot of it where you can sit and watch everyone bustling about.

As other reviewers have said, there's a big variety of restaurants, catering for lovers of Thai and Japanese food as well as Chinese. I like the supermarkets and the bakeries too.

I've never yet been there during the Chinese New Year celebrations, and that is definitely on my "to do" list for the future.

I find it an excellent place to visit.

The only thing I can conclude is people don't make the effort to look round properly, they glance, judge it on ONE place they see or eat at, because they are lazy. Here's a tip for people like that, leave the reviewing to people that can actually be bothered!!!

China Town in Manchester is actually one of the largest in Europe and has the biggest, most impressive arch, which you will clearly see if you compare this to London, Manchester's arch is certainly beautiful.
It is not sparkling clean, but neither is London's China Town or B'hams, or ANY big city, it has it's nasty bits and if you go a day before rubbish pick up day it will be a bit messy, with rubbish bags, but so what? Like I said London's China Town is exactly the same.
China Town has many, many nooks and crannies to explore if you are willing to look. It has Japanese, Chinese, Thai etc places to eat and I recommend you LOOK up reviews before eating anywhere, because just like ANYWHERE else there will be good and bad places.
My personal faves are Yuzu (traditional Japanese), Wasabi (sushi & dessert room) and Try Thai (Great lunch deals and stunning looking surroundings!)
China Town also has a anime shop, bubble tea shop, two Hong Kong style bakeries, a craft center (that sells everything from Chinese crafts to Korean stickers), a traditional Chinese craft and souvenir store a fresh (read live) fish shop, two super markets (selling Chinese, Thai, Korean and Japanese food stuffs), a Thai supermarket, various (none dodgy) massage parlors, a Chinese dessert room, a casino, karaoke bars, Chinese hair dressers, newsagents. Sometimes a small Chinese/Asian clothing store will pop in to one of upstairs buildings too.
So as you can clearly see, if you are willing to look there is plenty to see and do and there always seems to be new business setting up. It may not have a large market like London but it is still worth a visit.
Do your research on where to eat, logic and common sense says some places will be awful but some are just fantastic in China Town and it is worth a look if you are in the city.
P.S parking is NOT cheap, on road or in the car park, just like all parking in the city center.

Do not go out of Ho's without ordering the following:

Mango Boba (Bubble Tea)
Mango Gateau
Pork Roll

Plenty other great food in there, but these i find are excellent ....No it's not fancy, but its a bakery with a counter ...so it is unfair to rate it like a restaurant ...Very Good value for money too!

Enjoy

A great place to visit and see the Chinese Arch. Few good supermarkets. Restaurants are ok but they like to get rid of you once you've eaten so I stick to The Rice Bowl 33a Cross Street. Great Place. China Town can get very busy. Location is central - 5 minutes from Piccadilly Gardens and the Town Hall. Well worth seeing even if its just to see the Arch.
