After a full and draining day at the Tory conference, headed to a Tampopo not visited before. First class service and a great atmosphere with the usual fine food, even though very busy. Well done to all the staff concerned.

We did not eat at a very busy time and we were seated immediately and service was good.
The food was delicious. The four of us shared two sharing starters which were lovely - lots of dips and sauce.
Our mains which were very different, were all aromatic and yummy and large portions. The bill came to £20 each including drinks which we thought was ok for a city centre restaurant.
We would return definitely.

We had heard a lot of good things about Tampopo and thought we'd give it a try. It has an impressive extensive menu and couldn't wait to try what it had to offer. After standing for ten minutes waiting to be seated, after we ordered our meals we waited over an hour to get them! It was absolutely ridiculous considering the restaurant wasn't even that busy. Our meals were delivered about 10 minutes apart and cold on arrival. The food was ok, but didn't warrant the wait, so I wouldn't recommend it here. Apparently the one in the Trafford centre is meant to be better though.

Visited about a month ago for a family birthday - We tried various dishes between us coconut prawns (soggy coating) and I was especially looking forward to try the gado gado as i wanted to compare the tampopo version to the real thing from when i visited Indonesia which I tasted a few months earlier, this nothing like the original and a huge disappointment, with the taste and look - peanut sauce was very chunky nuts with too much fish sauce (original is smooth and creamy sweet n sour ) and the look was de-constructed on the plate.
Pad krapow was ok and a few other stir fry dishes that were nothing to write home about - generally if you want to try some south east Asian food in Manchester I would not recommend tampopo as there are better choices that may be a little bit more expensive but the taste and quality are better. However the staff and atmosphere were really good on the evening.

I often wonder if I eat in Tampopo far too much, but it was a real find; every dish is so fresh and packed with flavour (even basic dishes such as salads are so flavoursom and tasty) as well as being really cheap (especially with 25% off for students). I really love how they tell you where each dish is from so you can refer to the map of East Asia which serves as a place-mat which gives an outline of the characteristics of each country's cuisine. I am particularly fond of their sharing platter which allows you to sample various delicious foods. The staff are friendly, the service quick and the whole concept is refreshing and provides that something alittle bit out of the ordinary. I would highly recommend!
