“The "First Cut" exhibition is stunning”

Find time to see this exhibition guys, it's beautiful and brilliant. Sometimes it's easy to forget the treasures on your doorstep and a trip round this Gallery with a pal of mine reminded me to keep a vigilant eye on upcoming special exhibitions. Lovely cappuccino and muffin in the cafe was a great start to a couple of hours of gorgeousness!

“First Cut Exhibition”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

We have been many times and like many of the works on show. This time however the purpose of our visit was to see the First Cut Exhibition, which we much enjoyed. Hard to describe how good the art works were when saying that they are cut from paper! Paper in many forms, Books, bags single sheets, plain, printed. It is amazing the results acheived by the artists.

“Manchester Visit”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed November 2, 2012

Well laid out, nice shop and cafe, good slection of paintings with some modern and abstarct along with some beautifull old paintings, my favouitre is the Napoleonic scene with Marshall Ney and his men holding off the Russian army.
Did'nt like the modern style staircase and floor at the rear of the building, did'nt seem to fit into the chararcter, but overall well worth an hour or two's brouse

“A delightful hour”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012

I thoroughly enjoyed an hour or so exploring the Manchester Art Gallery. highlights were 1 of only 3 versions of holman Hunt's 'Christ knocking on the door of the heart'; and a beautiful study in pinks by Lucien Pissaro.

I had never heard of Adolph Villete - but his studies of Manchester were really evocative....very like Whistler's studies of the Thames. There's also a lovely work by Stanley Spencer (Cookham artist); delightful to see so many children enjoying themselves; a lovely light, airy gallery....with a decent cafe :)
