“Great for a Sunday roast!”
Reviewed March 2, 2014 via mobile

Great service, nice English food and wonderful atmosphere! We went there with a friend for a veggie Sunday roast and the food was nice and the service friendly and warm. If you like beer, order Brooklyn!

“Excellent service and well tasty food”
Reviewed February 25, 2014

I was having an awful day yesterday and decided the only thing that would help me was a chinwag with a good friend over a PARLOUR BURGER. Got there only to find that they weren't doing burgers at lunchtime. I said this was ok, and was prepared to go with something else, until the waitress came back and said she'd spoken to the chef because she could tell we really wanted burgers, and they were happy to do one for us. Gorgeous onion rings, a burger that tasted of chorizo that was too big to even pick up, and doorstep chips...it was exactly what I needed. Will be coming back. The service was excellent. Thanks for making me happy!

“Maybe "Only on a Sunday"”
Reviewed February 7, 2014

I live locally to this bar, and have eaten several times without being particularly impressed. It's all very "shabby chic" with the emphasis on the shabby. More commonly we'll call in for a drink, and they sell well-kept beer and a decent range of wines with a choice of a few by the glass.
It's always pretty busy so we decided to give the food another try, on the promise of a new, improved menu.
Service is generally good, as are the drinks, but for me the food is a big let-down. I suspect a lot of the reviews are for Sunday roast, which apparently is very good (not something i would choose to eat "out"). but the regular lunch and evening menu seems to lack balance and is overpriced. In particular, my friends steak at £22.95 was about half the expected size and overcooked, Burgers were quite nice, but £12.95? For a burger?
To be honest I would take some persuading to go back here to eat, it;s not particularly accomplished and is poor value.

“Why Did We Wait So Long?”
Reviewed January 15, 2014

Firstly, we are not quite local to Chorlton but travel there semi-regularly on shopping/eating/drinking trips. Secondly, we tend to stay rigorously to the Wilbraham Road/Barlow Moor Road crossroads and within 100 metres east and west. And thirdly, we couldn't quite believe all the great reviews about The Parlour. Surely this bar couldn't be so good that it would merit a 10 minute walk from our normal route?
The truth is that the detour was worth every metre of the walk. Not only did we discover the part of Chorlton that the locals have known about for years and which has helped to justify the area's reputation for individuality but we also discovered one of the nearest realisations of Orwell's Moon Under Water that fantasy hadn't previously mapped out. From the stripped wooden flooring to the tastefully quiet background music to the quirky mush mash of furniture The Parlour ticks all the boxes in declaring itself fiercely independent of corporate image. Having read great things about the menu regarding its support for local suppliers we were not disappointed. Local butchers, W Frost supply the meat and the great kitchen team work the magic. The steak and ale pie was pleasingly full of melt-in-the-mouth tender beef cooked with plenty of onion and celery in a satisfyingly rich gravy and topped with a proud cap of puffed pastry while the Cumberland sausage wheel sat jauntily atop a mound of the yummiest mustard mash I have ever tasted. The accompanying mini jug of gravy was chunky with sweet onion and balanced rather than overwhelmed the flavour of the sausage. A comprehensive and competitively priced wine list and some fine local beers on draught (Redwillow's Seamless and a brace from Moorhouse's during our visit) provided the liquid entertainment.
Service was friendly and efficient and we will definitely be looking forward to our next trek through the back streets to experience The Parlour's culinary delights.
