Description: The Banyan Tree is a unique Restaurant and Bar situated on Ellesmere Street on the edge of contemporary Castlefield. The name is based upon on a tree that is famous in South Asia. In most traditional villages of South Asia, a huge Banyan Tree provides a meeting place for the community. They gather in its shade to chat, relax or discuss important issues and make decisions. We provide a perfect space to meet and relax with friends or business colleagues. Welcome!

As our local 'pub' The Banyan Tree NEVER disappoints. We have been for wine tasting evenings and meals with family as well as nipping down regularly for a mid-week drink. It's always very chilled out and easy to relax there. The staff are really friendly (not in a fake TGI Fridays kind of way!) and the music is not overbearing. Great range of food. as a snack, try the bloody Mary chips! amazing! I can't speak highly enough of the place.

My partner and I fancied something a bit different to the standard pub fare of Castlefield, and being able to use our Hi-Life card on a Saturday was a bonus. Even without it the food is very reasonably priced, average starter £4-7 and mains £10-17.

We had already had a few pre-dinner drinks in the Castlefield area thinking we were nearby, but to be honest the location was a bit tenuous- it was more like Salford despite the M15 postcode and we had to cross a very busy and dangerous dual carriageway to get there. In future we would recommend a taxi.

None of this mattered once we were inside. Faultless food with good portion sizes, attentive service and killer cocktails along with a relaxed atmosphere made for a very enjoyable meal- we had the prawn puri and lamb tikka balls for starters followed by venison and lamb cooked exactly to our liking.

Bar and toilets very clean, and plenty of free parking nearby. Our only point of constructive criticism is that it wasn't as busy as to be expected on a Saturday night, but again we would put this down to it's slightly out of town location.

All in all this is a lovely establishment with a great Indian inspired menu and fantastic service, and definitely worth the taxi rice out of town- give a try, you won't be disappointed!

If you like standard supermarket naan bread then it's a good place to go. I had venison, after they got my order wrong, it had no flavour, expensive for what it was. Would avoid this restaurant, so many better which are close by.

I love this place! Have eaten here on a few occasions and have never had a bad dinner or breakfast.
The choice if wine and beer is great and the service is friendly and relaxed, nothing is too much trouble.
Nice romantic atmosphere and decor with your choice of big comfy chairs or proper table to eat at.
Like I say in the title, it's just like chilling out at home but you get service and no washing up.
Not bad for under £40 for 2 for dinner and drinks!

A delicious breakfast is served here, beautifully presented and freshly cooked. There are all the favourites here, all served with fresh toast and butter and large cups of coffee or tea,The main menu has some surprising ingredients and lots of lovely spices and the Sunday lunch, lamb or chicken, is sublime. If you really want to eat at home, but don't have the time or the ingredients, then this is the place for you, as everything here is available to takeaway. Brilliant.
