Description: Bistro West 156 restaurant is a shining star in the thriving restaurant scene on Burton Road in Manchesters West Didsbury, a quirky corner thats a foodie heaven not all that far from where the M60 and the M56 part company. Bistro West 156s pocket-friendly traditional cooking cuts out all the malarkey to deliver modern British cuisine, the real food that loyal fans adore. The rustic dining room with its granite topped tables, blackboard specials and changing local art displays sets a relaxed tone for easy lunches and suppers. While the food may be fine dining level, the ambience is bistro informal from terrific breakfasts right through to the last sip of dessert wine. Everything is homemade, and customer favourites include superbly cooked comfort classics like fish pie, chicken Kiev and Bistro West 156s very own melting chocolate pudding. You will succumb. The warm welcome and tables outside entice you to linger.

“Very good”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2011

Having recently moved to the area we are working our way though all of the restaurants on Burton Road and recently enjoyed Bistro West 156.

This is a small cosy bistro, it isn't flash and doesn't try to be which I really liked about it they just rely on the quality of their food - which is good but in my opinion nothing amazing.

I would certainly return as the food was enjoyable and the atmosphere excellent.

“Great Find (....keep it secret?)”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 21, 2011

I fully concur with most other positive comments. Good honest home made fresh food, beautifully presented. The ambiance is totally relaxed and the staff very friendly. You cannot fault the quality of the food and it is fantastic value for money. I visited on a Saturday afternoon for a 3 course lunch excellent home made chicken pate and superb trout fillets on a bed of perfect vegatables with a light cream sauce. Tasteful use of herbs, etc. You can even have a coffee and sandwich or whatever. No pressure, it is a belting down to earth bistro. If you just want sheer quality and no pretention.....Go for it.
I will be back for sure !!!

“Love it here!!!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2011

Have visited this restaurant numerous times over the past four years and have never been let down. The food is consistently delicious. I can honestly say I have never had anything but a fantastic meal here. I have taken friends from various parts of the country here and all of them have commented about the fantastic quality of food. The service is friendly and the owners genuinely appear to care about your dining experience and show no signs of getting too big for their boots like some nearby restaurants that I won't mention!
The prices are reasonable, the portion sizes generous and the dishes are always exceptionally tasty. I cannot praise this place enough. In a world where so many restaurants are indistinguishable from each other, the Bistro well and truly stands out.

“Tasty, unpretentious and consistent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2011

I have been to the Bistro many times over the last few years. From outside this restaurant is deceptive, maybe looking no more than a typical surburban cafe. However once inside this intimate, friendly bistro you are guaranteed top class food, generous portions, a decent well-priced wine list and a genuinely welcoming service. As a vegetarian I have eaten in many restaurants in Manchester, some of them very highly rated on this site, yet I often find my meals unimaginative and predictable. This cannot be said of the Bistro! Their vegetarian meals demonstrate thought and well chosen food combinations and always leave me satisifed and wanting to go back for more! My carnivore partner raves about the steak, and no matter how full we are, we manage to find room for a dessert here. I have taken many a friend and family member to this restaurant and can honestly say that each of them have left delighted by their dining experience. 10/10!! I just hope it doesn't become too popular so I can still get a table!!

“Faultless!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 10, 2011

We dined here last night as a party of 10 but go as reguarly as we can. The service is always friendly and efficient. The menu is varied and all the dishes sounded exciting-i wanted to try them all! The food here is the real star though-so tasty, generous portions and with skill that is consistently faultless every time we go. The mid-week offer is fantasic value for money. This bistro is a real breath of fresh air and we feel so lucky to live so close to it! If you like tasty, good quality food without any stuffiness you won't be disappointed!
