The Whitworth has good exhibitions on, and a really good collection - if you ever get the chance to visit the basement or special print rooms then do so. Along side the exhibitions they also have other events in the gallery, I was there recently where there was an afternoon of poetry reading linked with the literature festival. The gallery is also known for it's interesting textile and especially wallpaper displays. My only gripe is that the exhibition information is not always detailed/in depth enough. Also has small café, but situated on University belt so lots of food/drink options in close proximity.
