Came here after reading rave reviews about the cafe - found the food not at all to our liking - too odd. Strange combinations on the plate - ended up with a coffee and heading off to the museum cafe to eat!

The Whitworth remains one of my favourite galleries.

Although not strictly in the City centre it is well worth spending a fascinating hour or two admiring the collections.

I love its casual, welcoming atmosphere and, being a fan of the Pre -Raphaelites never tire of its exhibitions.

Very tasty and well cooked food. Lots of healthy choices using seasonal ingredients. The only problem is narrowing down your choice on the menu, you want to try it all. Friendly and prompt service.

The gallery is always interesting and its cafe generally has a good reputation - except for the rude and untrained staff. They really let themselves - and the gallery - down with their attitude. I am disabled, and asked a staff member for a knife and fork at my table - only to be told 'get it yourself'. When I asked where my tea was (having waited 15 minutes) the same young woman said 'it's coming' as if I was a fool not to realise that it takes 15 minutes to pour hot water into a teapot. She also served the tea with hot milk.... Don't bother talking to the manager, he's not interested because the gallery provides a steady stream of customers, so why should he care?
