My girlfriend took me here for my birthday last year as we had heard lots of hype about it. Once we went down the stairs there was funky music and every one seemed to be having a great time. Once seated we had some fun drinks and the infused water is really something for a standard drink . The wine list comes on an ipad which is helpful as it is a bit dark, its just a shame that the main food menu was not on an ipad but thats nitpicking!
We decided to have several dishes from the sharing pages and what a great choice the food was delicious and really was something else!
I had heard that the courses and dishes were very small in portion size but I thought this wasnt so and felt it was more than ample!!!! The pork is delicious !!!
I would highly recommend this place and cant wait to go back !!!!

Thank leesjourney

It was my birthday so we picked the much talked about Australasia, we booked for the early evening sitting as we had a theatre booking to go to. The restaurant is very dynamic in its fresh clean design with a touch of outback accents. The bar area was welcoming as were the staff, drink our wine we awaited our table. after a few short minutes we were escorted to our table which was find although despite being the first in I was surprised we were put to sit right next to a large building support in the centre of the restaurant, especially as we would have preferred a table under the stone washed tree, but we thought these were for groups of 4. The food was excellent if you are a meat eater, as the choice of mains was just one for m none veggie partner, I should say there was ample choice for both in the starters, but it was poor for the mains, and the lack of sauce for this only veggie was disappointing as it comes with tea and not everyone is a tea drinker. One the whole it was a great night and we could not fault the food and the staff were more than helpful throughout

My partner recently surprised me with a romantic meal at this highly talked of restaurant in Manchester where I have previously had trouble getting a table for.

Walking down the stairs into this underground restaurant located in Spinningfield enhanced the excitement, the setting is beautiful, making you feel like your in a high class restaurant in Sydney, Australia. We were shown to the bar to get a drink before our meal and I decided on their signature Porn Star cocktail, the most expensive cocktail on the list....why not ? :D

The drink was well presented and the bar staff very attentive no problems there, all seemed well. After a short wait we were shown to our table by the hostess, we were obviously struggling to carry our cocktails as well as our coats and handbag to the table but no help was offered by anyone which was a little annoying to me and my partner, not good manners in my opinion.

We were pointed to the direction of one of the middle tables at the back of the restaurant and once again struggled to get into our seats holding everything and as a result of the seating layout unless you are a size 0 you had to move the table out as the chairs were back to back with the tables behind. Not a cool sophisticated image I can assure you.

We were greeted by our waitress for the evening who made us feel very welcome and was very charming making us feel at ease helping you with the menu if needed. On the menu, there was a choice of japanese/ australian fusion food which I love, so we chose a couple of each, 5 dishes in all which we were assured was enough between the two of us.

Not kept waiting long the food was presented to us, all I can say is WOW ! it looked fabulous and I could not wait to dig in. I can recommend the mackerel which was steamed in a banana leaf, very flavoursome but the dish I was very excited about, the Scallops with pork did not meet my expectations and the high price tag it came with on the menu. Two scallops sat with two thin slices of pork on a plate which looked very pretty but unfortunately the scallops were a little rubbery and were fairly tasteless. The flavours on this dish did not seem to come out which was a shame as it was beautifully presented. The sushi was nice, with good flavours but the consistency of the rice just didnt seem right, being a little too soft and mushy for my liking.

After the 5 plates, we were still fairly hungry so decided to have dessert, I had the mango souffle which was so very light, my compliments to the chef. My partner chose the chocolate souffle which sunk a little but the raspberry ice cream was a nice accompaniment to the dish.

To find the toilets was a little bit of a maze and you need good eyesight to differentiate between the signs saying which loo is which, but the toilets are adequate and functional. A few dirty toilet bowls.

Overall the service was excellent and very efficient besides the initial lack of help. The food itself was well presented and good on the whole, however some of the flavours were in need of a little more punch.

I would actually go back here just for the people watching and the atmosphere of the place, a great place to go with friends. yes the food is a little bit pricey for what you get as I have had more flavourful and innovative food at less pricey places but for what it lacks in the food it makes up for with the atmosphere.

We visited Australasia for a relatives 70th birthday, and we had experience. The feel of the place was fantastic, and the waiter was extremely kind. Also we were very happy about the place we requested to sit at, as they let us sit there.
It was my 1st visit, and even at midday the Asian Atmosphere was fantastic, even if the restaurant was a little quiet when we visited.
GREAT PLACE
