The Castlefield Hotel
Ranked #60 of 120 Hotels in Manchester
Reviewed August 10, 2014

This hotel is very handy if you are visiting the Coronation Street Set and also for the Museum of Science and Industry (free entry and well worth a visit). Clean rooms with adequate facilities. Car parking on site, which is a plus with a city centre hotel. Yes you have to pay a car parking fee, but it is worth it to have the car close by. The Sunday lunch is well recommended - very tasty and and well priced. We had no problem at all with noise, despite our stay being over a bank holiday. Staff very helpful and friendly. Good breakfast. We have just booked again for the August Bank Holiday, and look forward to our stay.

Many thanks for your feedback and so glad you enjoyed so many aspects of your stay. As you say, the provision of a reasonably priced on site car park in a city centre hotel is a benefit. We look forward to welcoming you back over the Bank Holiday weekend

Stayed for one night as we had booked the Coronation St. tour which was a few minutes walk from hotel. If you ask for a room overlooking the canal its a nice view. Good clean room with everything you need including tea/coffee making facility and very comfortable huge bed. Staff very helpful and friendly and bar prices not too hefty. The only downsides were that the lovely breakfast was not included in price and you have to pay to use their car park. If you fancy a workout or a swim they have a very good fitness club.

Room Tip: Third floor room 313 has good canal view

Ewery, thank you for the feedback and glad you found the location convenient for the Corrie tour and the Museum of Science & Industry.Having investigated the bathroom odour. It is due to the air handling system having cut out. This has now been repaired and the issue resolved.Apologies for the disappointment experienced.

All the staff were very friendly and helpful, from the gentleman that checked us in right through to the lady at breakfast. The room was clean and had everything we needed including an iron and ironing board, yes we did hear party revellers walking past the hotel in the early hours but it is a city centre location so it is to be expected. The only downside was there was a mildew smell in the bathroom, the bathroom had no windows so perhaps could benefit from an extractor fan. Breakfast was lovely and they catered for vegetarians aswel which was great. Beautiful canalside location, and i would book here again

If you are looking for value , cleanliness and helpful and friendly staff , this one is for you!
As a guide, my wife and I paid less than a total of £60 each ,for bed , breakfast and two course evening meal and drinks. Also includes parking and free wifi ....The sports facilities are first class , including a large swimming pool.
It is about twenty mins from City Centre centre.
There are several neighbouring hotels where we would have paid almost double .

Recommended.

Tommos, Many thanks for your feedback and delighted you enjoyed your visit and the value for money included in your deal. Your post proves the value of shopping around when, occasionally, you discover a gem, which you certainly did with this promotional rate.

We stayed here for a weekend with a bunch of friends. We checked in early and the room was pleasant, but expensive for what it was. The facilities (pool, sauna, steam room) are actually a leisure centre attached to the hotel - not explained when we booked it. We arrived back from drinks in Manchester centre, to find that the staff were noisily clearing away a 60th birthday part, which went on into the early hours of the morning. The rooms do not have air con, so opening a window is a must, but the noise is so loud this prevents sleep. We then arrived for breakfast in the morning to find that it wasn't included and was an extra £7.50 per person!!! This was not explained when we booked, or when we checked in. We especially asked about when the breakfast would be served, and still weren't told. I would not stay here again, and found it expensive for what it was.

Room Tip: No matter where you stay you will be disturbed by noisy roads, screaming people in the street, doors...

Rosie Bu,
Thanks for the feedback and sorry that you were not happy with all aspects of your stay.As you say, the leisure centre is, like many other hotel based leisure centres attached to the hotel, being 1 floor down from reception and I am not sure what your issue is with this nor with the fact that the team were cleaning up after an event held in the hotel. Not sure what the alternative to this is.

We are city centre based and no, unfortunately we do not have air conditioned bedrooms. The noise you refer to is not excessive for a city centre and I am sorry this upset you.

The fact that you booked a 'room only' rate is your decision and I can only suggest, should you have such specific needs of a hotel in the future, you ask about them beforehand.

Stayed here a few times and always a great experience. Very friendly and helpful staff on reception. Great secure parking, clean smart rooms. Breakfast is very good to and ideal location for the city centre. Given where it's situated it's very quite too. Top place.
