so glad we only booked for the 1 night...location was fab but on arrival they had no record of us being booked in..we had booked a triple room for £99..luckily i had taken the print out of the booking or we would of been stuck,3 of us then had to share a double till they sorted the situation, the double room was dirty, stained sheets, bed must of been 30yrs old and we had a massive fan outside our window that was constantly running, the noise from in and around the building are horrid and go on all night long..so no sleep for us..when we came from our night out we were told that 1 of us had been given another room on the top floor away from our group which we wasn't happy with as this wasn't how we had booked,to then be told by 2 members of staff that someone had just been raped next to the Hotel, just what we wanted to hear as one of us was to be parted to another room....so we grabbed the quilt and pillows from the other room and one of us camped on the floor...the staff arn't welcoming or very friendly.....as I write this we are supposed to be hearing from the manager [ wonder if we get the call ] ...all the staff could do was fob us off...just wish we had checked on here before booking..we just went off the pictures on the site and thought it looked lovely...how wrong was I....DEFINATLY know for next time.

I booked the Mitre because of its location in the City and excellent low cost (I was over for a football match) So i was more than pleasantly surprised when i checked-in i was told i would get a free up-grade to a double room (no. 27) on the third floor. Couldn't believe it when i saw the size and the fact it had a huge flat screen tv on the wall facing the bed. The room had obviously just been painted as well which is always a good thing. The pub downstairs is open til around midnight, but at reception there is a small bar where you can get a drink at any hour!! I didn't bother with breakfast but it smelled good. And all the staff seemed polite and helpful.
The only down side is the squeeky floor boards and as it is shared bathrooms you hear everyone going back and forth early in the morning (including chambermaids from 8am!). However this pails into insignificance compared to the great price - exceptional value for money. I'll defo be back!

Room Tip: Shared bathrooms are very clean so don't mind spending less for non en-suite

Cheap and cheerful central Hotel, ideal for MEN Arena and shopping, Staff extremely helpful and friendly, only downside is parking - none at Hotel, had to use NCP £18 for 24 hours. If you like purple and silver you will love the bar!!. Very old building, uneven floors and creaky floorboards, but full of character, we really enjoyed our stay. Can recommend the breakfast for £4 per head. Would also like to thank the bar staff downstairs for the way they dealt with delay of serving our evening meal. All in all, cannot fault this Hotel.

Room Tip: Cathedral side rooms quieter - we were in Rm 18
