On arrival we liked the hotel - unusual building and staff friendly. We had booked a superior room for 3 nights and were offered an upgrade to a delux room for an extra £25 per night which we took - this didn't include breakfast but we were told the upgraded room had a lovely view and was more spacious. When we were shown the room it was a real disappointment - the promised fantastic view turned out to be the canal to a bit of wasteland covered in rubbish - the room was dark except at night when a bright light from the wasteland shone till morning. As there was nothing else included for the extra £25 a night we were not impressed.

We had dinner at the hotel - this again was extremely disappointing. The staff were friendly but clearly didn't know what they were doing. The chairs were filthy. The food was bland and expensive - £17.95 for a small piece of chicken, mashed potato and leek - the waitress even said the potato wasn't included in the price and would have to be ordered separately as the menu was a la carte! A very expensive bit of chicken - which still had bone in it. Perhaps staff training would be a good idea.

When we checked out we queried the descriptions of rooms and were told that the basic room is called 'superior' . We felt this was misleading - superior to what??

The car came back from the secure parking (£14 per night) covered in bird droppings - the last straw. We won't be going back.

We had a Marriott Rewards dinner deal, so it was an excellent price! I am an Auntie travelling throughout the UK with my two nieces, 27 and 17. We booked a double-double room.

The staff was kind and reassuring after a long hectic travel day. They were efficient and helpful even with our late check-in! As we were right at the point of being too late for dinner order, they ran back to alert the kitchen staff for our order. We were starving, tired and fighting a cold. They met us with smiles, an extremely comfortable room, and great food! The salads were the best we'd had in all of England! Tender and fresh and tasty.

The hot toddy concocted by Ganeesh the Bartender was the tastiest and most effective cold relief I've ever encountered. The hot lemon tea infusion with the Indian spices and honey was fragrant and superb. He said it would cure me, and he was right! I was feeling much better for my early flight the next morning.

Vera at the front desk took care of every request and was kind and comforting as well. Naeem made sure that we were alerted for our early wake up call. When we didn't answer our early wake-up call due to a glitch in the phone (a previous guest had set it to silent), he followed up with a gently tap on the door to avert the disaster of a missed flight.
Vera had our tea and paper ready for us as we headed out the to cab that she had called for our departure.

All the staff took such great care of us, at such a great value, that I would stay there again in a heartbeat, even if it is a little out of the way!

Can't beat the location if you are going to a show at Manchester opera house; under ten minutes walk.
Pillows were sublime, super comfy super king bed.
Our bedroom was really spacious, too- way more room than other comparable places I've stayed.

Downside- there are other four star hotels nearer to the shops and nightlife and I agree that noise from other rooms (TV) does travel. Also, I do think £14 daily is steep for parking. Make sure you book b and b to avoid paying £17pp per day for breakfast.

We have stayed at this hotel twice, both times using tesco clubcard points on the 'stay for breakfast' rate so it was a real bargin. It is a attractive, clean, relaxing hotel with friendly staff and service. The rooms are very spacious with big comfy beds. My only problem was the noise from the next door rooms the walls are very thin, I heard a man coughing through the night which kept me awake. Also the hotel is quite a walk from the main shopping area. Although you do pass Granada studios on route so its ideal for some starspotting! we saw fizz from corrie last time!!! Breakfast is superb with a wide variety of choice. Take some earplugs and enjoy !!!

Stayed here for two nights using Marriott Points. Service was excellent, room was beautiful, very spacious, comfortable beds. Sleep quality would have been better if we could have adjusted the room temperature. It was too hot at night and windows don't open. No internet service available in room, which is a drawback. Hotel is in a safe location, but out of the way. 20 minute walk to Arndale, which is the city center. Advertised health club/spa, included in room, is 10 minute walk.
