We have been to the Didsbury branch of Cafe Rouge a couple of times. Service is friendly, if a bit slow. Food is sub-standard by French criteria, but par for northern England (ugh). Most dishes were bland, not hot enough or were not properly cooked. There are better places nearby (The Jade Garden, if you fancy Chinese - probably the best neighbourhood establishment). Prices are generally high in view of the mediocre quality of the food, though if you partake of their special deals you can get by 'cheaply and not-so-cheerfully'. Wines not bad. But overall, not really a place worth bothering about.

We have eaten here several times and never been disappointed with the quality of the food. The service is good and the menu has a good selection to choose from. The only thing I feel that let's this place down is lack of atmosphere. I'm not keen on the decor and this particular cafe rouge is often quiet. With that said we keep going back as the food is excellent and we always know we will get a good meal.

It was a Saturday evening the restaurant was not so busy. We tried to order a drink at the bar on our way to the table. ( We did not feel like waiting for the drink order to arrive from the waiter, it had been a long day) We were not allowed to order a drink at the bar it was aginst their license agreement. In fairness the waiter arrived quickly with the drinks and we could then relax and take our time to order and have a chat.
The food was well presented and was good. One member of our party did have an issue with his order and this was taken care of quickly without a fuss. The service was very good. We enjoyed a very nice evening.

Manager took order and forgot two of the dishes, latte turned up cold, a black hair was on the top of my eggs and the wrong condiments accompanied my meal. When asked if I could have the correct condiment the manager huffed. On return I realised the reason I had been given the wrong one was because the manager could not be bothered to open a new packet.

Go somewhere else. The manager can not even be bothered.

This is a fairly popular restaurant for us in that it's close to where we live and you can use Tesco Clubcard vouchers. We had a main course, one shared veg side dish and a dessert each, which came to around £43 (not cheap but not ridiculous either) but with the vouchers cost in effect £13, plus a tenner for drinks and a tip so not an expensive night out although we wouldn't pay full price as there's always some offer available even if you don't collect Tesco points. Both meals were nicely cooked with fresh potatoes and vegetables and a good tasty sauce and both the dessert and the cheese platter which we shared were fine. I've never had a bad meal here yet and the staff have always been excellent although it's not somewhere I'd want to go too often with the sheer variety of excellent places to eat out in Manchester.

I'm a bit surprised at the really poor reviews which is quite out of keeping with what we've found over the last five or more years.
