Owner description: We're an award-winning producing Theatre in the centre of Manchester. As well as classics from William Shakespeare, Tennessee Williams, Oscar Wilde, Noel Coward, and Anton Chekhov, we're also one of the country's leading theatres for new writing, with over 125 premieres in the theatre history! The unique design means that none of the 760 seats are more than nine metres from the circular stage, with seats placed all around the auditorium, giving views from all angles. The Great Hall surrounds the Theatre, and this houses The Round restaurant, Bar Exchange, the Craft Shop and exhibitions, the Education Lounge and workshops, the Information Point, the Mezzanine Gallery exhibitions, as well as Friday evenings' FREE entertainment SPECIAL FX.And we're open on a Sunday too! With brunch served in our Great Hall cafe and free entertainment during the day.

I was expecting a grand theatre and was greeted to a sub standard theatre, the play itself was boring but I accept that's my fault for choosing it. However seats were too high compared to the floor, acting was mediocre and there was no stage. London is so much better it's as though they've spoilt me compared to the north!

A visit to the Royal Exchange theatre is always a joy. Sometimes the choice of plays is a little too 'safe' but even if the script is not to taste, the stage sets, costumes, etc make for a whole experience. I have been visiting the Royal Ex as long as it has been in existence and have always enjoyed the way the seating encourages an intimate atmosphere- you feel so close to the players that you could be part of the action.
As well as the main theatre there is the studio theatre, with more experimental productions.
The cafe, bar, restaurant, craft shop also add to the attraction.
The theatre itself is a structure within a structure. The great hall in which it stands has amazing glass work, a huge dome, the original trading boards from the last day of trading, enormous pillars- all worth seeing even if you do not want to purchase a ticket to watch a play.

It has been awhile since I visited here, but the bonus to this place is that you don't have to see a play to visit, with the cafe, bar and restaurant its a good building to relax and have a coffee or food.

The added bonus is that you get to see some great plays in an amazing setting,

The craft shop is well worth a visit for pretty things at reasonable prices. The café is also excellent but service a little slow.

A brilliant piece of architecture/planning to build a modern theatre in to the Manchester Royal Exchange, a listed building from 1914 but built on the old foundations dating back 300 years. It is like a tardis sitting in the atrium of the entrance hall. large steel construction with fantastic seat layout so that everyone (700) have a very good view and the sound quality is excellent. I did see the Victoria Wood play "The Day we Sang" in December but to be honest this is a review about the theatre and loved it. Centrally located in Manchester in St Annes Square, no immediate car parking but plenty close by. Huge number of bars /Restaurants etc within walking distance, did not think the bar prices were silly like some places and you have the chance to sit and enjoy the old building during the interval. Enjoy.
