Usual large city high street with the major stores you would expect. Nothing special. One end has undergone major improvement adjacent to the Arndale Centre and M&S

Market Street High Street the Arndale shopping centre looks such a mess with its multitude of cladding and large amounts of those awful tiles which still make it look like a lavatory wall. The Shudehill, Withy Grove, Corporation Street area have benefited from the closure of the bus station, the total closure of Cannon Street has greatly increased the size of the centre, Corporation Street and the rebuilt M & S look much better. They may have been forced into the external rebuilding of one side of the centre, but I feel they have missed out in large areas of the inside, the addition of some roof lights in the 80's went some way to improve things. but you still have to ask the question are such large congregations of people, just targets for terrorists? I do not and have never liked such large shopping centres, and my time in them to a minimum, or I shop online.

Every highstreet store you can think of is present in Market Street and the big shopping centre,The Arndale, so the choice is excellent. Personally I don't mind crowds (if you do then proceed with caution), on week days its not unusually bad (for a city) but on weekends it is heaving as everyone in Greater Manchester flocks here for their weekend fashion fix. Whilst the shopping is great its not the most characterful part of Manchester, nor the most unique but then again its not meant to be, is it?

So many, many shops, so much street activity with musicians and other performers, so many fast food places for the kids and better restaurants surrounding the place. Manchesters Metrolink Tram runs right along the top end onto Piccadilly Gardens. A must place to visit

The main street goes from Piccadilly down to High St. The shops are tacky, and there are too many buskers and promotion sellers on the street. I would take a wide berth
