We booked to stay here before Christmas as we were going to a gig and thought it would be a nice treat. We got a good deal on the room which helped BUT!
They must have found the tiredest looking room in the hotel! All the furniture is black - or should be! The trim around the dressing table was coming off, seal around the bath was mouldy, the seal around the window had come off so there was a cold breeze coming through the window. The room was at the back of the hotel which is no big deal however when the bins started being emptied early in the morning and all you can hear was crashing around because the windows were so poor it did become a big deal. The room was dusty and everything looked like it needed a good clean. I know I'm being picky but there was no mattress topper on what appeared to be a very cheap mattress which made it very uncomfortable.
On the positive side, the breakfast selection was excellent and was well cooked. It's such a shame because I'd heard good things about Malmaison so I suppose expectations were high. Unfortunately these expectations were not met.

Hotel close to Man Picc station (2mins walk) , 2 mins central Man . Not really scenic location but nice conversion of an old building.

breakfast top rate , evening food good (not cheap -price ok) . Colour scheme red and black and with red lighting in the lift I thought I was in Amsterdam , the interesting art work added to that feeling . Good room overall , quality fittings , comfortable bed.

Minor niggles ,
Not enough milk in the room for more than 2 drinks ,why this is not a cheap hotel or room !
Bizarrely taps for bath behind shower glass screen so can not top up without getting out of the bath (exec room) .

Would use again but did not blow my socks off either .

We visited here last night Sat 11th Jan as we had a 50% off food voucher for January. As we had been here before we knew and can recommend the steaks, and pick your steak from the display and the wheight from the butchery and they cook it to your liking. We also had steak tartare for starters and for mains we had the Tomahawk Steak for two which was cooked medium rare and sliced for two on a platter, we also orderd two side dishes and a bernaise sauce. All was lovely and steak was melt in the mouth. Chips are really nice served with ali-olo (garlic mayo) and bloody mary ketchup. We also had a bottle of tempranillo which was lovely and good value at £17. All this, with the voucher discount cost us £60! fantastic for this place. Kepp your eye out for future offers and give it a try, im sure you wont be dissapointed.

Room Tip: Sevice charge is added on the bill in the restaurant as par for the course, dont think its optional.

The hotel is in good location if you enjoy shopping in Manchester. The service is below average. The room is decent but nothing special. If you are a business traveler, want to save cash, want a clean place to stay then this will be one of the best option.

I would recommend this hotel if you don't care about the service and spend most of your day outside.

Room Tip: If you are planning to stay in the hotel most of the time then I would highly recommend upgrading th...

Upon my return from the UK, I read a number of previous reviews about the hotel and noticed a couple of running themes including bad service, uncleanliness and a general need to upgrade the hotel. I would generally agree with these sentiments.

I booked a standard double room in late December upon returning to the country for the christmas holiday period. Me and girlfriend know the city well having lived here and had previous heard good things about the hotel. So we gave it a try but were sadly left disappointed.

Upon arriving (returning to the familiar wet and cold Manchester weather) we were greeted by the receptionist who almost immediately launched into the hard sell of various upgrades. Not what you really want after a long day/flight. Would we like to cancel the dinner plans we already had and eat at there restaurant? Would we like to upgrade our room etc etc. So I was already rather annoyed by that point.

So we get to the room and had the usual look round. On first inspection everything looked ok but after spending a few hours in the room you start to notice a few things. For example certain dents and scrapes in the furniture, the lasting mist on the mirror in the bathroom and the general shabbiness of the carpet. It generally felt tired and there was evidence of it throughout the hotel.

While these things didn't disturb us too much other findings did. On the second day i noticed the new toilet paper we were given had a very dubious stain on it. It looked like blood but hard to say, needless to say we didn't use it. It is a minor thing but when you pay quite a high price you expect better. You wouldn't even find this kind of thing in standard hotel rooms like the Premier Inn.

The main plus point of the hotel is of course the location. This is great but this alone is not enough to justify the price tag. There are plenty of other better standard hotels in the region and I would certainly recommend those over the Malmaison Manchester.

I also find it quite telling that they don't both to answer reviews on here. My gut feeling is that they are trying to drip every last bit of money they can out the hotel before they undergo a refurb. It's a shame because there other hotels seem to be well thought of.

We have enjoyed staying in other Malmaison hotels - mainly because of their unique style. This hotel was a short walk from the station, and is in the centre of Manchester. Very convenient location. Our room could have been any hotel chain - apart from the luxurious black curtains. We also thought the pictures in the corridors were tacky - they were close-ups of the human body. Outside our room was a photo of a left bum cheek. This gave the impression of the type of hotel you can buy a room for an hour.

We were looking forward to having a drink in the bar at the end of our day - but found we could not get a seat. The bar was packed with general visitors - taking the opportunity after a hard day of shopping. I liked the decor in the bar - which was industrial. The bar also doubles as the restaurant for breakfast - the breakfast was excellent.

The reception staff did not quite seem in control of the situation. After our visit we called multiple times to obtain a copy of our bill - this took three weeks to arrive.

We paid £89 for our room booked via laterooms. I mentioned that it was our anniversary when booking and was surprised to receive an upgrade to an executive room and given vouchers for free cocktails. How nice was that !
Our executive room 341 was comfortable but not that special and certainly did not compare to the Liverpool Malmaison. Standard bathroom and average toiletries . I was disappointed not to find the usual Malmaison full size toiletries.
Bed pillows and linen comfy. Not enough plug sockets but pleased to find an ipod docking station.
Unfortunately our neighbours played music loudly throughout our stay. This would not normally bother us but 24 hr trance was a bit much,
A call to reception was dealt with promptly however the music persisted.
A personal visit to reception was dealt with in a professional manner and we were offered complimentary breakfast.
A wide variety of cocktails available from£ 8.95 to £12.95 .

Breakfast was plentiful and delicious with attentive staff.

Checkout was handled very well by Georgiou. He was well spoken, courteous and deserves a special mention.
All in all a nice hotel, avearge facilities but excellent customer service.
