“Should have been great but little things let it down”

Great reputation but the sum of the parts didn't quite add up!
Great location - right opposite Manchester Piccadilly station and 5 min walk fom main shopping street. Perfect.
Staff friendly and helpful but not quite professional enough. Little things that shouldn't happen in a 5 star happened - v. soft bed, slow room service, tap didn't fit bath plug hole etc. = all v. small things on their own but they add up, especially given the cost.

Having regard to the high cost I wouldn't stay again - I'd try a cheaper alternative which would probably be just as good,

Stayed here for a couple of nights whilst up for the Test Match. Good location - shame about lack of car park but as others have said there's a discount at the nearby NCP. The room was good - clean, nicely furnished, excellent bathroom with decent soap/lotion/shampoo that they encourage you to take home. Ask for a room at the back - it's quieter there than at the front.

Excellent bar, good selection of wine, decent beer and a demon Martini! Good place for spotting all the BBC and Sky people covering the cricket when I was there.

Food in the restaurant very good as well - I wish they would light it a bit more brightly tho - hard work reading the menu!

Last but not least the Staff. Very friendly, helpful, knowledgeable as well.

Not expensive, and a nice change from the major chain hotels.

Myself and a friend stayed for 2 nights on a weekend break from Ireland. Everything from start to finish was excellent. 1 and only fault was the lack of a carpark. Beds are so comfy, spotless clean rooms, friendly helpful staff, cosy bar....I loved it here!

  • Liked — Plasma screens, comfy beds and professional staff
  • Disliked — No car park but could handle that!

I have just come back after 2 nights at the MalMaison and enjoyed the stay.

It isn't great that it doesn't have a car park but the NCP isn't far away. You get a 20% discount for parking so don't forget to ask on checking out.

The room was nice with a large comfortable bed, plasma tv with sky and a clean bathroom. You are encouraged to take the toiletries home and do..the shower gel is gorgeous! Room was fairly noisy from traffic and we seemed to be next to the boiler room. Complained on checkout and they did seem genuinely surprised.

The hotel is 2 minutes walk from Picadilly Station and at the end of Canal St. Shops are 5mins walk. Breakfast was too expensive but there's a really cheap and tasty greasy spoon next to the station!!

Overall would go back again. Fairly reasonably priced and no need for taxis as not too far from anywhere.

Stayed for 1 night and was very disappointed to be honest. I'd heard such good things about malmaison hotels that I thought I would check out the Manchester one. Found it to be no better than a Premier Travelodge or similar 3 star chain hotel. The website says you receive 'all the usual malmasion extras', but the only thing I received in addition to normal, was free broadband. This was a nice little bonus, and was very handy, but I still dont see how it makes the Malmasion so much better than its rivals. The breakfast wasnt very good either and it was an additional £13!

Stayed here for 2 nights and it was lovely. The room was large with a very comfortable bed, satallite TV and a CD player. The bathroom was also large with a bath and shower. Room service was efficient and not too expensive. The best thing overall was breakfast in bed delivered with the newspaper of your choice at a time that suits you! I would definitely stay here again.

You cross the chessboard reception and suddenly you're a king for the knight. It's your move. Smoak Bar and Grill at Mal Manchester: A grill room and bar quite unlike anything Manchester has ever before seen. Set in the award-winning Malmaison Hotel minutes from Piccadilly station, Smoak is total indulgence for the senses. The amazing aroma of nation's finest oak-smoked steaks and fresh fish, served to a pewter counter or cosy booth. Imagine great imported beers, cocktails and bubbly served from an unusual sunken bar, with highly skilled mixologists serving you while you stay seated. Picture a stylish relaxed but chic interior a mix of booths, banquettes and counter stools. Come lunchtime and it's locally sourced bread, generously filled sandwiches and salads or full blown grill dining for the more adventurous lunchtime escapee. Come sundown the mood changes and we turn the aromas up to eleven. The cocktails flow, the steaks sizzle, the music turns up and the night begins.
