“Awful..”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 24, 2009

We stayed in Twin Room. View out of the front of the hotel.

Booking was easy, and we got a confirmation email, which is always reassuring.

The location is brilliant, it is slap bang in the centre of Manchester.

But that’s about anything positive I can say about it.

The room was shabby, the bedside lamps bulbs where burning holes into the lampshades where they where just hanging off the fittings. [see photos] The side table drawer door was missing. The room was in need of an extensive clean. The bed linen and towels where clean though. Thankfully.
We where woken up at 4am by what sounded like a 3 or 4 lads smashing the room next to us. Doors where slamming, the walls pounding with blows from what ever they where throwing around in their room. I felt scared. No one appeared to come a deal with it.

Outside the hotel you feel you don't want to hang around, some dodgy characters hang about. And the reception desk is further in the hotel, you could actually walk in and get in the lift and not be seen by the receptionist. Staff where pleasant. But..

It could be a great hotel.. but it needs a massive renovation. MASSIVE.

For the price you are better off staying somewhere else. I've been to Manchester before so I know, only a short distance (5-10mins walking) from this hotel you will find yourself a much better, cleaner, better kept, modern place to stay.

Avoid it. I did warn you.

I stayed at the Gardens Hotel on 3rd July, in a single room. I was meeting friends in Manchester and just wanted somewhere cheap and clean to lay my head. The room was perfectly fine. The bedding and towels were clean. The staff were polite and helpful. The breakfast was very nice (full english, included in the £30 price).
The location was perfect...5 mins walk from Piccadilly station, 2 minutes walk to the shops and to the bus station. It felt quite secure because they lock the doors at about midnight and you have to buzz the intercom to get in.
All in all, I was pleasantly surprised by this place, after having read some of the reviews on here. OK it's not the Ritz, but for the money it was more than adequate.

We spent 8 days at this hotel and really enjoyed our stay..The hotel is very central and is ideal for travellers wanting to see lots of the city. There is tons of shops, pubs and clubs within walking distance and Piccadily Gardens directly across the street. The staff were very friendly and helpful and our room was cleaned everyday. We also felt very secure leaving our things in the room while being out most of the days. Also considering the hotel is located on a very busy street amongst loud pubs and bars we didnt hear any noise at night and slept very well.

For a short stay this place is fantastic. Great value at £50 for a twin room with breakfast. It's a five minute walk from the railway station. Staff are friendly and the rooms are quite large. I have stayed in hotels in Manchester for double this price and they have been no better. Cant recomend the Gardens highly enough.

We were 2 adults and 1 child (7 yrs) and stayed from 29th March to 1st April at Gardens Hotel. I would really recommend it. The room was big and comfortable. It had a view of Piccadilly Gardens and it was clean. It was cleaned everyday. The bathroom was clean with spotless towels. We also had breakfast which was very good indeed. My son is very fussy regarding eating but he enjoyed making toast and he enjoyed the English breakfast offered by very kind and smiling staff. The hotel staff is the best ever. They were really helpful. The train station is only about 5 mins walking - or even less. I was surprised how easy it was to get to the hotel. Also there are buses at every corner near the hotel. The Arndale and other shopping centres such as primark are only about 3 mins walking down the road. I recommend to stay at Gardens hotel cause I'm sure you will not have a better price and greater service. Thanks to all the staff. xxx
