“Nice change from the Norm”
Reviewed March 4, 2013 via mobile

I travel alot with work and after a while you start to notice that the large chain hotels can be rather repetitive.

The Etrop is deceiving in look. From the outside in the gravel car park it looks like a small residential house until you walk in.
Parking is limited and it could mean that you are double parked however leaving your key at reception will allow the hotel porter to move your car if required.

Checkin is nice and professional. Has a old house smell to the place but this adds to its character.

The porter is a lovely gent that assists with the carrying of your bags and introduces you to your room.

Each room is spactious and has a good bed , TV and bathroom. My shower screen was a little close to the wall so was a little hard to get in and out of the shower. Shower was fantastic and really refreshing.

When you start to navigate around the hotel you can easily get lost as the place is huge!

The bar is great. Lovely grand piano and have had a play on it, still on tune.

Its true you do have to book a table fir dinner , but there isnt a big wait and you can easily wait in the bar. When your table is ready the waitor comes and gets you.

The menu is a little pricey but you get what you pay for. They offer you Home made bread with butter which is amazing.

Had a great stay and will be glad to return in the future. How nice it was to have a change from the norm.

One night stay at this lovely hotel. We booked one of the four poster bedrooms and were allocated room 14 which was lovely, however I had seen pictures of room 15 and wanted that one as it is bigger. My husband asked at reception if it was available and without any hesitation Ali gave us the key so that we could have a look and see what we preferred . Room 15 is lovely. Lots of space and traditional furniture. The hotel staff are so friendly. Breakfast is cooked to order and was very nice. We did not have an evening meal in the hotel as we had other plans, we looked at the menu though and it looked very interesting with some unusual ingredients. We will come again.

Dreadful customer service. Checked in at 4.00pm and told them we wanted to dine in restaurant. Room OK but toilet seat hinge broken. Went to bar at 6.00pm and ordered wine. Told staff again that we wanted to dine and asked for restaurant menu. Tried to access wi-fi but gave up after half hour as access code never worked. At 6.45pm tried to order food only to be rudely told not possible as we had not booked a table. Decided to walk to airport to get food. Told receptionist of our concern and he spoke to duty manager. Duty manager could not even be bothered to speak to us and just sent rude head waiter to tell us we could only order certain items to eat in bar area. There were various empty tables still unused when we returned from long cold walk from airport at 9.00pm. Dreadul service, they don't seem to want any customers in their restaurant.

I had booked a room as a surprise for my husbands 65th ...only because he had been getting 'tweets' about the food.... I called in to confirm dining arrangements today and the staff could not have been more dismissive. I was told at one point that the receptionist could not help because "she was filling her face" and that what five or ten minutes after he had a conversation on the phone about what a nightmare the evening before ad been, which I could not have avoided overhearing...there was so much more appalling customer service that I was absolutely gobsmacked. If they are so successful they don't need my custom ...fine. There are plenty of places that offer better customer service and food that is just as pretentious. Sadly I cancelled the room and dinner reservations but I just wanted potential guests to be warned..... They don't really want you..

Room Tip: Can't assess rooms or anything else because bad service made me cancel before we stayed...beware...

Stayed at The Etrop Grange Hotel, near T2 Manchester airport recently (Feb 2013) the night prior to an early flight to Las Vegas!
The Hotel is really easy to find and although it’s only minutes from T2 it is really lovely and quiet and very plush and friendly. The rooms we had were so clean, warm and beautifully fitted out. The reception was a little busy when we arrived but we were warmly welcomed and assigned our rooms quickly – we could also get a meal in the restaurant or a bite to eat in the bar area. The staff were really friendly and accommodating and it had a really good ‘feel’ to the place and I will definitely book a room here again if needing to stay the night before an early flight. The Hotel transfer to the airport was frequent and when we landed back from holiday the mini bus arrived within minutes of our phone call to the hotel to let them know we had returned.
All in all I would definitely recommend this hotel for its location, choice of rooms, easy parking and friendly staff.

Room Tip: Excellent value for an overnight pre holiday stay with 8 days parking included

Stayed at this hotel pre Manchester flight. Collected from the rail station very promptly, driver very polite & helpful. Checked in with no fuss & bags taken to our room. Our room was on the first floor, was warm, clean, with every need catered for. This hotel really is a gem, the staff cannot do enough to help guests to enjoy their stay. Dined in the restaurant, meal was lovely, again with excellent service, although it was a little expensive we thought. Sleep was undisturbed, no noisy corridors, or doors slamming. On checking out, no fuss, taken by courtesy bus to terminal 1 all free of charge! What more could we ask, a very nice stay and will definitely stay her again, will recommend this hotel to our friends & family.

We decided to try this hotel for an overnight stay and park for 15 nights asa change from the other airport hotels. Very accessibe and only five minutes to terminals and not on any flight paths. Grade 2 building and bedrooms were well furnished and individual. Very comfortabe kingsize bed in standard room. Transfers to and from terminal were excellent with no delay. Staff were friendly and welcoming. Only negative comment is that the dinner prices are expensive with no alternative for a lighter meal after 6.00pm. Would be difficult to go elsewhere to eat.

Room Tip: If you have a lot of luggage, request a ground floor room ( there are many)

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Etrop Grange is a gracious Grade II listed Georgian Country House originally built in 1780 by school teacher William Moss and although located just a short distance from Manchester Airport, is anything but an airport hotel.Originally known as Moss House, the hotel was renamed Etrop Grange in 1984 by the owners after a local area called Etrop Green. Etrop Grange first opened for business in November 1985 as a fine dining restaurant on just the lower level and was slowly converted into a hotel over the next 13 years with a £3 million refurbishment. The Etrop Grange still retains it's Georgian charm with its stately facade matched by a luxurious interior of decadent chandeliers, heavy drapes and marble fireplaces.Due to modern intervention the hotel is now ideally located just two minutes from Manchester Airport and the M56, and is one of the few hotels in the area with no overhead aircraft noise making it an ideal hotel for business and leisure alike. Offering complimentary transfers to and from the airport and airport railway station (between 06:00 and 22:00), along with complimentary parking and WiFi for all guests, Etrop Grange is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day or night whatever the occasion. ... more   less
