We enjoyed Etrop Grange even though it was a quick visit. Arrived by train to the airport and checked in for our flight the next morning. phoned Etrop and they came and picked us up to take us to the hotel, checked in quickly and a nice gentleman took us to our room, no 63. Very comfortable if very high bed.....all the facilities you need for an overnight stay. Tea/coffee etc. In the morning , we were transported to the airport at our convenience. Because we were latish arriving and early leaving we didn't eat there so cannot make any comments on food.

Room Tip: Room 63 was on the ground floor quite a way from the bar etc so quiet and a decent size

Stayed here before flying out from Manchester airport. Was a pleasant stay. The room was clean and tidy but quite small. Breakfast was very good and the location is very close to the airport. I would stay here again if I needed somewhere to stay before flying out.

An old house that obviously pre-dates the airport which is only 0.6miles away. It is not really walkable, because Manchester Airport has spent all of its existence being redeveloped and the planners can't apparently develop anything without the liberal overuse of roundabouts - but that's another story....
Etrop Grange trades on folk going to and from the airport and competes with all of the big chains which are situated a little closer to the check-in desks. But it has a shuttle bus which, for me, was available at 5.00 a.m., so that's fine.
Like all old hotels, it has rooms of varying shapes and sizes, with well-used old-style furniture, but it is clean, comfortable and all the rooms are equipped with baths (I think....while many modern hotels just have showers). It does afternoon tea with all the trimmings at £10.99, and an all-day menu in the bar which has very reasonable prices. The same for dinner, which is good quality.
It has free wi-fi (big groups please note!) but above all, the staff from the moment you check-in are very friendly, but in an honest way, not plasticky obsequious.
I like the place, if only because it is a bit different. Oh...and you can leave your car there while you are away.....

Room Tip: They are all different, so there is no way of knowing what's best.

Etrop Grange is surprising - the hotel provides a haven of calm, even though it's only a few minutes walk to Manchester Airport. Certainly, this is NOT a typical airport hotel.

The staff are very polite and attentive, there's a great selection of drinks and food. The food was excellent - great menu.

A group of us went for a pre Christmas get together at the Etrop Grange. I must say the website sounded like a night to remember! It definitely was but for the wrong reasons! The staff were very young and inexperienced and not the silver waiter service we were expecting! The food was probably the worst thing about the night followed closely by atmosphere and service! The soup when it arrived I can only describe as Brussel sprout soup which was described as parsnip and broccoli and was disgusting. My husband ordered the roast lamb and isn't adverse to a bit of fat but unfortunately the plate was full of inedible gristle it was disgusting! The Brussels sprouts were so hard you needed a chain saw to cut them! As for the rest of the veg it was simply mass produced tasteless slop. One of the highlights of the evening was when my husband returned his lamb as in edible, a plate of turkey was returned in its place with no explanation even though my husband has an aversion to turkey! Dare I say the bullet sprouts, insipid vegetables, tasteless gravy appeared again. We decided not to make a fuss as the majority of people experienced the same experience as us.
We decided to make the most of the night by having a bit of a boogie on the dance floor which was advertised to 1 pm. How wrong we were the young manager with glasses who seemed quite inexperienced for such a responsible job decided to turn the overhead likes in at 17 minutes past 12. We all complained but were informed we could retired to the bar but the DJ was finished so what happened to dancing to 1am.
The pista resistance was when the manager has a full blown argument in front of the guests which appeared to be about the manager refusal to pay the going agreed rate by the hotel.
All in all I can defiantly say we will not be going back to this truly awful hotel! It beggars belief that when we had our daughters 18th birthday party there albeit a few years ago from the whole start the evening was faultless! Just shows to show how rapidly a fabulous restaurant can decline!
