“Wonderful stay”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

This was just wonderful! Coming in late at the airport, shuttle was there to pick us up in a second!
Got to a cozy reception room with fireplace on, had time to chat away before going to our very nice room. Service was outstanding, breakfast is great, rooms are very well furnished and overall great. Breakfast in the morning is just a dream…what else…oh yes, we spent less than staying in a guesthouse!!!!

I have stayed a few times at this place. It's very convenient for Manchester Airport and the rooms and service are generally of a good standard, but this time round there were some major issues in the bathroom - there was no toilet paper, the toilet did not flush properly (maybe those two issues are linked?), and the mixer tap in the shower only yielded lukewarm water.

I explained all this on checkout and was rewarded with a rather disinterested 'okay' rather than any form of apology.

lovely staff could not be more helpful or accomadating which is always a huge plus for me! The room was spacious and spotless, with a really comfy bed! my only problem was that it was freezing! fortunately there was an additional heater in the room which sorted the problem very quickly! This is something other guests have commented on this website. The only other issue was the shower-it wasnt electric which is fine but it had to run for a soild 5mins before the water became even tepid! It did then warm up properly but that was annoying...
Overall I cannot say how friendly and welcoming the staff are and I will definately return next time I fly through manchester!

Room Tip: Prehaps ask for a room nearer the dining room or reception? Mine was very cold but it was at the end...

We attended a wedding at the hotel. After reading the reviews (some negative ones on here) we wondered what the hotel would be like. We were pleasantly surprised. The staff were very polite and helpful. The room where the wedding was conducted was nice. The wedding food, a hot buffet was very good too. The bedroom was more than adequate for what we needed. The bar prices were what you would expect from a hotel, and the wine was good quality. Breakfast was well cooked, nice choice and much better than what you would get in a lot of hotels. Basically, it was all good.

Room Tip: We had 16 & it was fine.

visited Etrop and was very disapointed in the room..ok it was only £54 for the night a tiny cramped damp room very cold, tiny double bed, bathroom loo seat was broken off, the heating didnt work and a tiny plug in electric fire was in the room left on full all night made no differance a very tired hotel and cant understand some good reviews on here as they must be easily pleased.
awful place and was really surprised as it looks a really top place from outside.
On the positive reception staff very good and escorted to your room...nice and warm area with real coal fire to keep staff warm but room cold and damp...poor in my opinion

Great location close to all terminals at Manchester Airport and the hotel offers a free shuttle bus service from 6am that only takes a few moments. We used the main dining room and both the food quality and wine selection were excellent if a little pricey. There is a cosy bar area that is reminiscent of a country house.

Slightly disappointed with the rooms in comparison with the rest of the hotel but at prices that compare favourably with the budget hotels in the locality I'm happy to overlook this.

We stayed here for one night towards the end of November on the Stay, Park and Fly package. This was our 3rd stay on this package.

On arrival, after struggling up the steps with large luggage we were greeted at reception with 'what surname', NO hello, NO welcome to Etrop Grange, NO acknowledge of our journey and not even a please JUST DAMN RIGHT RUDENESS! There was no friendly chit chat while we were filling in the booking form, in fact we listed to the receptionist and and male colleague discussing how a couple had arrived and they had no record of their reservation, come on Etrop Grange, we don't want to listen to this!

While checking in we enquired about our transfer to the airport as it was before the mini bus started and the male colleague decided to try and make a joke about us having to pay for a taxi but instead left us feeling a little belittled, I'm sure you will find your comments funny now they have arrived on Tripadvisor!

We were given our key and directed to our room, again no help was offered with luggage even with the male colleague sitting behind reception.

Our room seemed perfectly reasonable for a one night stay, BUT the sink has a large crack in the bowl, the toilet seat slips each time you sit down, the light from the corridor shines through the bottom of the door all night and the tv when switched off makes terrible static noises which woke me up on one occasion.

At least on checkout the young male on reception was very pleasant, it's just a shame the two members of staff at reception were so rude the night before. As you can see I have written two other reviews for this hotel, but after this stay we will be thinking twice before booking.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Etrop Grange is a gracious Grade II listed Georgian Country House originally built in 1780 by school teacher William Moss and although located just a short distance from Manchester Airport, is anything but an airport hotel.Originally known as Moss House, the hotel was renamed Etrop Grange in 1984 by the owners after a local area called Etrop Green. Etrop Grange first opened for business in November 1985 as a fine dining restaurant on just the lower level and was slowly converted into a hotel over the next 13 years with a £3 million refurbishment. The Etrop Grange still retains it's Georgian charm with its stately facade matched by a luxurious interior of decadent chandeliers, heavy drapes and marble fireplaces.Due to modern intervention the hotel is now ideally located just two minutes from Manchester Airport and the M56, and is one of the few hotels in the area with no overhead aircraft noise making it an ideal hotel for business and leisure alike. Offering complimentary transfers to and from the airport and airport railway station (between 06:00 and 22:00), along with complimentary parking and WiFi for all guests, Etrop Grange is the perfect place to spend a relaxing day or night whatever the occasion. ... more   less
