I decided to stay at the Renaissance because of my Marriot points, and I wasn't disappointed.

Though the entrance isn't a lavish as some of the other Marriot hotels, inside there is much ambiance and clever use of space.

I was given the top floors which was good, given the great views! It was also helpful because the train tracks were about 5mins away but it can be heard if you are on lower levels, if I could hear at the top.

Great shopping with the Arndale as well as the more exclusive Spinningfields. The Northern quarter and Chinatown are about 10mins walk away, so ideal location.

Reserved standard room with points.
Had no expectations going in.
Arrived right after noon. Chilled in lobby for a bit. Room ready shortly thereafter. Lobby had two sitting areas. Free WIFI access in lobby. Quick & strong.
Given room on 11th floor. Great view over Manchester.

Room: Huge. (Think: Enough open floor space for two people to do yoga.) L-shaped. Decor was different yet felt upscale. Nice details. Calming colors. Nice size desk. Wonderful sitting area with really nice chairs & table. Good size closet. Super cold mini-fridge (not mini-bar) in closet.
Our room had a robe, slippers and bottled water. Good size flat screen.
King bed & pillows: Okay. More firm than soft. Lots of pillows.
Kettle: In room. Plus a sleeve of hot cocoa & package of Scottish biscuits!
Bath: Who said the baths were small? Maybe compared to the huge room. Obviously you haven't been in London hotel baths. Bath good size here.
Who said they weren't renovated? Maybe the sink/vanity wasn't replaced yet all else looks great. Bath is nice. Good space for your stuff. Bath & shower combo. Tokyo Milk amenities including bath minerals. No power outlet for women. Nowhere in the UK. Must use desk outlet yet no mirror. Or above fridge in closet is outlet with large closet mirrors.
Towels: Sadly are hotel worn. In real need of replacing.
Water pressure: Too much. Pull handle half way on only.
Cleanliness: Good.
Standard: Iron/board; hair dryer.
Windows: Heard street noise even on 11th floor on Deansgate (busy) side. If super light sleeper, might be an issue.
Staff: All encountered, great.
Elevators: Three. All fast to/from lobby. Only weird note here is five steep stairs down from lobby to elevators. Luggage...well, you are carrying those wheeled pieces up/down the stairs. Why?
Location: In heart of Manchester city center. On Deansgate. By all shopping needed & every restaurant possible. Easy walk to Piccadilly train station. Straight shot on one road.
Value: For points used, good stay in city center.

Like lonrp2008 review, this hotel is in a fantastic location. Nearly all of Manchester's landmarks, restaurants and shopping center are all nearby. If not, then there's a bus stop nearby in which Manchester City provides free shuttle buses around town. The rooms are quite big and clean but the toilets are a bit small.
The rooms are clean but a bit old. The windows of the rooms were quite scary as they were falling off the wall. Beds were very comfortable and I had one of my best sleeps in a hotel room here. The staff are all also very friendly.
Overall would recommend this to anyone who wants to explore Manchester on foot.

Room Tip: Ask for higher rooms. Rooms with a view of the river is quite quiet.

Fantastic location is what first comes to mind. There is so much to explore and thoroughly enjoyed a two day weekend break. Great service culture, fab design land even a DJ in house!

All navigators - Jez, David, Jennifer, the restaurant manager everyone we met were brilliant. Wish I was better with names!

Arndale, Printworks and even an amazing cathedral with free entry all in walking distance. R Life, to the fullest!

Having stayed at a number of hotels in Manchester, i must admit that this is one of the best i have been for staff, rooms and food. Being a travel agent i am a right snob when booking hotels, so hence i always have honest reviews to put on. We had booked approx 5 rooms for a friends 40th birthday, not staying before i was very apprehensive.
As soon as check in was complete the hotel did what it supposed to do, the rooms were bang on and service was a premium. We were allocated the Pankhurst suite, Stunning and well worth paying for. We were up on the 11th floor adn views over Manchester were stunning. The bar was well stocked in the hotel and service from the bar staff and Lady manager were excellent.
Breakfast was superb, massive range of cooked and continental. Omlettes were awesome and every need catered for.
Will use this again most definately.

Room Tip: Upgrade to the Suites, well worth the money

Second visit to this lovely hotel in six months and it is great. The location is fantastic if travelling bus or train or car as the car park is under the hotel. From the outside the hotel does look good- but all changes as you walk in through the doors. `The staff are friendly and efficient and make you feel welcome. Both times we have had upper floor rooms which have been refurbished, they are large modern with big comfortable beds. The pillows are amazing.
The bar area is lovely and the staff there are attentive. Breakfast is first class. I would definitely recommend this hotel - in fact I would not stay anywhere else in Manchester.

Room Tip: Higher rooms have recently been refurbished.
