“Great Location”
Reviewed April 14, 2013

This hotel is in a great location close to The Manchester Arena & The Arndale centre. This was our second stay at this hotel and like the first we were not disappointed. The staff were very helpful and all very friendly. Our room was large & spacious and was spotlessly clean, the only critism would be the shower was poor. When visiting Manchester again will stay at this hotel.

We stayed one night over the Easter weekend for a long anticipated event in Manchester. Although the location is great the car park was difficult to access and quite confusing, I ended up exiting and having to drive round the block again.

It took a total of 3 room changes before I was given one that I was prepared to stay in. The first 2 offerings were unbearably shabby and had twin beds. The carpets were threadbare, cupboard door handles were hanging off, broken phones, faulty lamps and rusty fixtures in the bathrooms. Only one lift of the three available worked and it lurched and stopped abruptly, this caused a huge backlog of luggage laden guests in reception! Thank goodness we only stayed one night.

The single consolation was the friendliness and professionalism of the reception staff. They did try their best to address the problems listed above but while the hotel is so badly dilapidated they're fighting a losing battle. I really expected more from the online photos and Marriot chain reputation. I won't be returning until after the proposed renovations, if ever.

We stayed here on Easter weekend as we were celebrating our 10 year anniversary. We got to our room and discovered we had separate beds when we had booked a Kingsize. That wasn't a real issue and we thought it wasn't something that bothered us enough to complain about as we only used the room as base after a night out. The rooms were very dated and were not the standard I was used to from a Marriott. When it was time to go to sleep we realised that we were right behind the lift shafts and all we could hear all night was the lifts going up and down. Not what you expect when you have spent a lot of money on what you hoped would be a decent hotel. The lifts are dangerous, we went down in one and it started shaking and felt like it had gone into freefall. The staff were friendly so I couldn't complain about that.

However when we got home I made a complaint to the Marriott and their reply was that they hadn't had any complaints about the noise from the lifts before and they'll make a note for next time we stay. We won't be staying again so there's no need to bother.

The hotel is in an excellent location in the centre of Manchester - central to the bars and restaurants and opposite the main shopping area. As mentioned in previous reviews, the rooms are very dated and a little bit shabby but as we were only staying one night this wasn't an issue. The room was also a good size with 2 queen beds and a sitting area. Breakfast was excellent as were all the staff, particularly the bar staff when we returned in the evening for a cocktail.

However, I did find the rooms were too warm no matter what we did with the heating/ air conditioning and became uncomfortable during the night. Also there seemed to be a problem with the lifts and the evening we stayed none of them were working so we had to use the service lift.

Overall I do think there are better value hotels in Manchester.

My wife and i stayed here as she was booked on a course here. I had some work to catch up on so we booked a suite so i could get some work done, while she was on the course, I had been given a new aston martin for the weekend ( lucky me :)) to try out and i gave the keys to the valet which he took with some trepidation. When we got to the room, i was dissapointed to say the least, no lights on the cieling, peeling wallpaper, terrible carpet. As my wife entered the bathroom, I heard a scream. i rushed in and found her pointing at a cockroach in the sink . I have posted the photo. i called the manager, who transfereed us to another room, with apologies. No cockroaches thank god, but this time nails sticking out of the floor outside the bathroom and wires sticking out of the ipod dock, we were pretty tired so we stuck with the room. Breakfast was good. and the internet was good. when it came to check out i had the car delivered back. the alloys had been scuffed and there was still powder from the kerb he'd just kerbbed it on. When i called the manager out, they took photos, advised me they agreed the scuffs were fresh as the stone from the powder was on alloys. and wrote me a letter to that effect. I left the hotel extremely annoyed. 3 months later I still havent heard anything from them so icalled them myself. they accused me of scuffing the alloys despite a letter of admission on their part. and i wasn't going to post this review as i know how one bad review can ruin a reputation, but this one deserves it. Terrible AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Ps. also while i was waiting for my car to be delivered an old lady tripped on the kerb, while a few of us went to help her, the doorman just stood there looking checking his watch. Come on!!! train your staff in compassion.

First impressions of this hotel weren't great, and neither was the carpark. Situated on a corner of a busy junction one of us had to hop out the car to get directions. When we got to the car park we needed a hotel key, which we hadn't been given as we hadn't checked in yet. Luckily a memeber of staff was leaving at the same time so let us in with his key.
The reception area/bar was a pleasant surprise and has been done to a high standard. Check in was a bit of a palava, it seemed to take a while and the que was only getting bigger, although this was around the start of check in time, so everyone one must of been as eager as us! The reception staff or 'navigators' as they are called more than made up of the poor navigation to the car park earlier. Our baggage was kept aside until our room was ready.
After a stroll we got our baggage, pain free, and caught the lift up to our room. Once you step out of the lift, the hotel becomes dated. The room itself was spacious (2 double beds and a living area- i think we were lucky) and looked staight out onto Harvey Nicholls.
The hotel itself is in a great location but the dated decor did let it down slightly. It was very quiet in the hotel which was niceafter a night out, even the hustle and bustle from the street below could not be hered!
Based on location i'd stay here again, as i was only sleeping here it didn't bother me that it was a tad dated, but if i was spending more time here i'd look around to find something more to my taste!

Fortunately the rest of Manchester isn't like this hotel! Plans were made to knock it down and start again, but the economy changed and the hotel stayed the same. If you like shabby, old fashioned and the last place where you'll find big lumpy TV,s then this is the hotel for you. It's not cheap and there is better value everywhere else. Life's too short so I wont' go on and on about the bathrooms, but hey when was the last time you used a smelly plastic shower curtain?
