“An average hotel, nice to stay in for a short stay.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 29, 2012 via mobile

I travelled here with a group of seven. On first impressions the reception is nice and welcoming. One of the rooms didn't have a window but the plus point to that room was the wifi worked a lot better in it than the other rooms even though it was on a higher floor. It's a great location, central to everything. If you want a cheap short stay then its a good hotel. The rooms were clean but the bathroom needed a bit of updating with the decor. My only complaint was that I was sleeping on a sofa bed because I was sharing a room with three other people but I wasn't given any pillows for the sofa bed I had to use the small cushion from the sofa as a pillow.

Over many years whilst working in central Manchester, I have patronised a number of lunchtime buffets and this is one of three reviews of my most-visited venues.

Sachas is part of the Britannia Group of hotels and I hold a gym membership there. On weekdays between 12.00 and 14.00, Jennies Restaurant on the lower ground floor offers a 3-course carvery lunch costing £5, open from 12 noon to 3pm. The menu is fairly standard, with a soup, choice from (invariably) roast pork (beef is too expensive), fried battered fish, a vegetarian dish and sometimes chicken served casserole-style. There is a selection of vegetables and roast and boiled potatoes and gravy is available. Desserts comprise some form of gateau and canned fruit salad. Tap water is provided via a glass container whilst the adjacent bar is often open for cash purchases.

In terms of value for quantity, this is hard to beat for a central Manchester location. By virtue of this, the venue can get quite busy with a certain clientele, mainly pensioners.

Is the meal a gastronomic experience? Most certainly not! Well, what do you expect for £5? The soup is usually of poor quality and we always skip it. For economy, the days of a choice of roast are long gone and pork is now often the staple, though it can frequently be flavoursome and served in reasonable quantity. We’ve always given the fried fish a miss too, because the fillets are cut so thin that there looks to be little to eat beyond the batter. The chicken dish is the best alternative to the carvery. For our taste, the vegetables are well cooked, as also are the roast potatoes, one of the best options. Beware the gravy, it is "thin" and can be quite salty, as are the vegetables on occasions. The dessert gateaux are ‘so-so’ but can be relieved by the available pouring cream. It is difficult to do anything good or bad with catering-standard canned fruit salad, but invariably apart from the stray cherry, it is quite tasteless.

For a time, coffee was included in the £5 price but now it costs extra.

One advantage of this venue is that the staff do not chase you out, provided you settle your bill. It’s quite common for my wife and her friend to be still in-situ after 16.00.

Verdict: cheap for what’s on offer but no frills and don’t expect quality.

Hi everyone. I stayed here for one night in October. Queued for around 30-40 minutes at the desk with around 15 people waiting to check in. Room was without windows, granted it was an "economy" room where i paid £85 for the pleasure.

The real big problem with this hotel was the fact that three days previous the hotel office had been raided and a set of master keys had been taken...However i did not find this out until after my room had been broken into (not really broken in to because THEY HAD THE KEY!!) by two young men and my mobile phones stolen while i slept.

The police had advised staff at the hotel to change the card keys BUT THEY DIDNT BOTHER, putting every single person at the hotel at risk. Not only this but the night before 3 PEOPLE WERE ARRESTED FOR DOING THE SAME THING! What if the two people entering had weapons and put up a fight when i woke up and chased them off??

Disgraceful to not provide a room that was safe for all the guests and to not even warn us or advise us to hide valuables and lock the door from the inside was absolutely pathetic.

Do not stay here.

I went on a trip to Old Trafford and I was really looking forward to staying in the apparent 3 star hotel well i wouldn't even give it half a star. The staff didn't have a clue at what they were doing and were incredibly rude and insolent. Then i had to trek to my room the lifts looked like they would break so i took the stairs. All was fine until i reached the fourth floor which stank of smoke a sign said the stairs continued in another place so i followed the sign and the stairs were something from a horror film. There were beer bottles everywhere and the dust looked like someone had tipped it out of a hoover. Then I got to the room which was supposed to be a single room well if you call three solid as a rock old fashioned beds a single room. The T.V looked like it was from a decade ago and to be honest i don't just want to watch BBC1 and Al Jazeerer. Then to tick me off even more the smoke alarm was covered with a plastic bag. The horror movie continued then toilet wouldnt flush.

Room Tip: Dont go there at all !

First impressions were very good , but I don't understand as to why there are no windows , the heat was unbearable the air conditioning was very loud and really made little effect, so did not sleep well
There was a desk top fan in the wardrobe which we used but switched it off as it kept squeaking.
The shower took ages to set right as it the hot tap was boiling so the shower was either too hot or too cold.

I stayed in this hotel with a friend on night of 13 October. We arrived at 1.15 and were told we couldn't check in until 2pm but could leave our luggage in the hotel while we went into Manchester. We were given a receipt for our luggage and told to put it in the room. When we went to collect our luggage my friend was given the wrong suitcase, on telling the receptionist it was not her case she was told to go in the room and find the correct case.
It took 45minutes to check in and when we got to desk were told the twin room we had booked was not available as they were overbooked.
We were offered a triple room as an alternative. This room had the wardrobe door hanging off,the telephone didn't work, kettle didn't work and the table lamps didn't work. This not being acceptable we were then offered a free evening meal as compensation. As we had made arrangements for an evening meal we would not accept this. We were then offered a double bedded room and they said they would put a single bed in it.
This room was a smoking room, we are non-smokers, the curtains were hanging off the rail, light bulbs were missing from bedside lamps, a shade missing from another lamp and there was mildew and mould on the window. When the single bed arrived it was a fold up zbed. After paying £116 for the room you do not epect to sleep on a zbed.
The breakfast next morning was help yourself to everything, including tea and coffer, hot water was in flasks and the cooked breakfast was in warming containers and this was cold.
Overall the hotel was shabby and in need of a facelift and the hotel staff were rude and unprofessional
