“A pleasure to stay”
Reviewed January 12, 2011

Stayed here with my daughter for a short break. Very central - Manchester Central Car park 5 minutes walk away Palace Theatre and Cloud 23 (reasons for our visit) shops 10-15 minutes walk.
Receptionist very pleasant and remembered next day where we going and what we were doing took time to chat with us. From door men to waitresses every one pleasant and had a smile for us (I've stayed at lots of hotels and this can't be said for most!)
Didn't manage the spa facilities but have stayed at other QHotels and they have always been good.

Overall the hotel is well located, the room was spotless, and staff excellent. We didn't eat in the hotel but had a few drinks (expensive but probably on a par with other hotels nearby). We did encounter one problem though. The opening times for the health suite published in the hotel room brochure were wrong causing us to be turned away when we went to use the facilities. Upon complaining the duty manager agreed to open the health suite just for us. Excellent service and a complaint well handled. We were very happy with the outcome. Would stay here again in the future.

Dear Reviewer,

I'm probably most pleased to read that you had cause for concern, raised it and we sorted it!!!!

No I'm not as I'm just as pleased to read comments about delivering the basics of a spotless room and helpful staff. Thats what makes the difference as I will highlight with the Manager that successfully resolved the problem with our health club opening times for you.

Thanks for allowing me the opportunity to do so.

Long gone have the glory days for the Midland Hotel. To compete with the Lowry Hotel or the Hilton Deansgate or the Raddison Edwardian is just a fantasy . 3 stars is what this Hotel deserves and only has 4 because of facilities. Its worn and furniture is old and carpet and doors long seen there day. Walls are in need of a touch up and furniture in the Midland suite is what i would expect from a house clearance. Check out the Hilton with great views and the price is the same. I was informed that £15,000000 was spent on the Midland 6 years ago, how i would love to see the audit for that and see where the money really went. Stay away as there is much better out there .

Dear Reviewer,

Many thanks for taking time out of your busy schedule to review us. As you will already know The Midland bids for, wins and successfully delivers (and has for some time now) the most prestigious conferences and events in Europe and proudly represents Manchester as thier host hotel for political party conferences year in year out. There is very little room for complacency and standards that we must reach to even be in the running for such events a situation that any of the fantastic hotels that you mentioned would love to be able to say I'm sure.

We possess the highest grading possible for a hotel of our type with the AA and have a singular reputation that also transcends Michelin, The Good Food Guide and The Green Business Tourism Scheme amongst many others. The investment as I understand it was actually £18m by QHotels six years ago with an annual investment of £2m+ in maintaining this 'grand old dame' and a further £650,000+ THIS YEAR to ensure our Banqueting offer remains absolutely unique and what I'm told is the best in the North West.

However, all of that aside, it is OUR people that make the difference between whats good and great. OUR staff deliver to a great standard (feel free to read our reviews as we're very proud of them) and our guests who tell us about when we did well and more importantly tell us about what we need to do to improve. All of which we feel drives The Midland forward.

Thanks for your thought provoking contribution.

Set a high standard for us in the future, The staff made our visit with nothing too much trouble for them. The ambience of the lounge was our highlight, especially with the pianist on the Saturday night. Leisure facilities better than most. Parking a downside, we used the Park Lane Car Park that does special weeekend rates, secure parking and not too far away

I last stayed at the Midland several years ago and remember the public areas as being impressive, the bedrooms less so. I'm delighted to say the bedrooms are much improved and the one we had seemed more spacious than I remember. That may be down to their refurbishment and the choice of furniture that did not clutter. The bed was very comfy, choice of decor on the whole very pleasing (I'm not 100% sure about the "mural"), storage space perfectly adequate and the bathroom clean and bright (though I'm not a huge fan of showers over baths which some people could find hard to climb into). Tea and coffee facilities were provided though I didn't think three tiny milk cartons were enough for two people, but a quick request of the chambermaid on our corridor produced a handful more! Reception was friendly and our room was ready when we arrived. Checkout service was very efficient.

We were attending a wedding at the hotel and I have to say this was a delight from start to finish. I had been to a wedding here (without staying overnight) a couple of years ago and on both occasions the quality of the facilities the hotel provided were outstanding.

We got a very good prepayment rate of £95 without breakfast. As we had eaten heartily at the reception until the wee small hours we did not sample the hotel breakfast which would have been too expensive for our limited hungers.

All in all this was a very good stay and I would thoroughly recommend the Midland to anyone staying in Manchester especially at that end of the city centre.
