Yes it's clean and quite smart but then it should be, as a 4 star hotel ,and at the prices it charges. The lobby is extremely smoky. The drinks charges in the bar are excessive-£8 for a glass of wine? The flowers are fake, the ashtrays are overflowing. The Wyvern bar is advertised as a glamorous place to sit and enjoy the view but it was dominated by smoke, a huge Tv showing golf, and pop music-not the last word in sophistication.
The room-clean and a good size with the usual mod cons.
At breakfast, you are marshalled in- made to sign for it before being seated- everyone herded into one area- then you have to fetch your own food anyway. The food was all right but certainly not worth the £15 charged.
Could do better.

I stayed at this hotel as part of a work conference for 2 nights over a weekend. I have to say that I wasn't expecting very much, and was very pleasantly suprised when I arrived. The rooms were lovely with fresh and modern furnishings and the usual mod cons such as plasma tvs. The bed was extremely comfortable - just the right firmness. All the staff I encountered over the weekend were extremely helpful and courteous. The sauna and swimming pool were nice and very quiet considering the hotel was extremely busy. The food was good, and although breakfast was slightly chaotic and it did take a while to get tea and toast served to my table, the food itself was fresh, hot and tasty. The hotel is in a brilliant position - in a fairly quiet location, but 5 minute walk from the shops (which are also good), bars and restaurants. All in all, I was very impressed, and have stayed in much worse 4 star hotels.

This was my first time Manchester and not only is the city great but the Midland Hotel was a pleasure to stay in. It is a magnificent building with decor of pure grandeur I felt like royalty. The staff are friendly and seem to go out of their way to help you. I would have loved to have a meal in the French but sadly my stay was only a short one. The afternoon tea is to die for and certainly a must have. I can't wait to return just so I can try out the French.

I very rarely write reviews but after staying at The Midland hotel in Manchester I felt that it warranted it.

The location is perfect. It's just a few minutes stroll to the city centre but it is located in one of the less busy areas of the city.

Upon my arrival I was greeted by a very friendly and courteous receptionist and the check in was quick and easy. The grand reception was amazing and something that you might expect to find in a top london hotel.

The room itself was faultless and very obviously recently refurbished as everything was spotless and new.

I had a bite to eat in the lounge area above reception which was very relaxing - the staff member was very attentive and courteous at all times and the food was very good.

Overall it was a fantastic experience. This is a 4 star hotel which in my view warrants 5 star status. Everything from the staff to the food to hotel itself was exceptional. I will certainly vist again when I am next in Manchester.

I stayed here with my boyfriend for 1 night in June 2006. I was attending a concert at the MEN arena....this hotel was absolutely fantastic!!!! I could have chosen a better location for the concert as there was a bit of a walk to get to the arena but I chose the hotel as there was a deal on for me as a travel agent. What an amazing hotel! The room was absolutely massive....large living area with couch and table.....massive king size bed, wardrobes, plasma television and cd player. The bathroom was very spacious also and cleanliness was to a high standard.
This hotel is in a great location....,minutes walk away from shopping area and arndale centre!
Definately would recommend this hotel to anyone!

Well i stayed at the midland because i was going for a night out with friends. The moment i walked in The reception area was amazing something out of a movie. I arrived to check in and had no problems i was in a royal suite which was amazing i had a very nice view of the manchester libary which looks nice lit up at night and the room service was pretty fun to play with got loads of stuff within a matter of minutes. I did tip the room service with a generous amount of notes. The meals were very well made and also worth the money. And it was very nice to have a fridge full of free goodies "Yes i mean free" i had a very pleasent weekend stay.
