I pre-booked afternoon tea for my family of 8 adults and 6yr old grandson. It was my eldest daughter's 40th birthday and we travelled from Kent and Essex to be with my daughter to celebrate her birthday. On arrival we were given little to no info and the overall service was extremely poor mainly due the minimal staff on duty who seemed unable to cope. We waited ages for our table to be cleared of dirty crockery after requesting this on at least 3 separate occasions. The food was acceptable although the sandwiches consisted of two dinner size plates for 8 adults and a child. The assorted cakes were tasty but overall not very good value. I would describe the venue and experience as chaotic and impersonal with individuals walking through the tea area to get to the bar and members of a wedding party walking past. Worst of all the 40th birthday cake agreed for my daughter's celebration had not even been prepared. It is impossible to recover what was meant to be a memorable occasion. There needs to be closer supervision of staff and proper exchange of information from booking to event. I was really disappointed and upset by lack of professionalism, poor customer service and personal attention shown by the Hotel staff. I am really sad how poor the afternoon tea turned out to be.
