“Museum of Labour History has been improved greatly”
Reviewed March 22, 2013

Amidst the architectural clutter of modern flats and offices that the last boom produced stands the People's History Museum cocking a snook at the pretentiousness of modern finance capitalism. There are refreshments, an excellent research and reference library, and a grand array of displays about history 'from the bottom up'. This should be advertised at Manchester's Piccadilly Station with directions as to how to visit this outpost of people's civilisation the other side of Deansgate.

“History of ordinary people”
Reviewed March 19, 2013

History is made of ordinary people and not just about prime ministers and kings an queens. Here we can see how people lived and their struggles for the rights for instance to walk in the fresh air on Sundays.
There are nice exhibitions as well that change from time to time, so it is a nice place to go every now and then and be able to see a new things and be amazed.

“Surprise find”
Reviewed March 11, 2013

This is a top museum. The reason why I give it four stars instead of five is only because I had very young children with me - I discovered it by chance while walking back to the car park after a day out in Manchester. I would perhaps rate it higher without the 'kid' concerns.
There is an excellent history of people's political involvement, which includes the Peterloo Massacre in the 19th century, and all other big protests ever since. If you have even a passing interest in politics and people power, this museum will fascinate you and maybe even inspire you.
There were enough things to interest my older son of 5, but I think that if you have children, you might be better off taking them when they are a bit older.
I, as an adult thought it was an excellent find and look forward to being able to returning one day in different circumstances. It is well done - modern, with lots of multimedia, original banners and posters, videos and music and speeches, and recreated rooms and scenes.

“A real hidden gem”
Reviewed March 10, 2013

I have to say we chanced upon this museum, noticed it whilst having lunch at the Mark Addy pub, and it is a real gem. If you have any interest at all in the political history of Manchester and the UK it is amazing, and not dry as it would first seem but really done at a human level. For anyone born in the last 50 or 60 years it really should be on your itinerary.
