My girlfriend and I visited Zaika for valentines day this year and it was a huge disappointment. We were told over the phone there was a set menu for the evening and that we couldn't order off the usual menu, which was fine. We arrived early on in the evening and the restaurant was relatively empty, only 3 other couples were there. Despite this, the service was horrendous throughout the duration of our meal. The set menu was a set starter and dessert with a choice of one of 4 main courses and it was priced at £22 per person or £30 per person if you wanted to try all 4 main meals. The starter came and it was delicious, however the portion size was tiny, even for a starter and this became a recurring theme throughout the night. We opted to go with the more expensive set menu and try all 4 of the main courses. Once again the portion size was tiny, it felt like they had only brought us enough food for one person and some of the food went cold incredibly fast like they hadn't cooked all the dishes at the same time. The food was tasty but the for the amount of food and for the price it wasn't worth it. The dessert was an awful and dry slice (guess the size) of chocolate cake.
The service was terrible all night, the waiter serving us was useless, my girlfriend ordered a glass of wine and he brought a bottle instead, which he'd first taken to a different table by accident. He kept saying that they had new staff in and it was their first night (on valentines???), despite it being him making the mistakes. He also forgot which course we were on (I should have been dishonest and got him to bring another portion of mains as the first lot wasn't enough). Despite informing us that we could only order off the set menu, multiple people came in and ordered off the normal menu and I had to ask for the bill twice.
Overall the food was generally quite tasty but tiny portions and not good enough to warrant the overinflated prices. My girlfriend and I are quite laid back, are not usually in a hurry and find bad service quite funny, but Zaika took the mick. As students we don't generally have much money and to spend it on this meal felt like we wasted it. There are much better Indian restaurants in Manchester (Akbar's is just down the road), which are much better value for money. Avoid.
