Not the biggest museum in Manchester by a long way, very interesting to see the history of fashion, loads packed in, into the two floors, with changing exhibitions it is very interesting, it a shame there is not stuff which people can feel or children can try on?. Pleasant and helpful staff, only open in the afternoons during the week.

The collection of period costume housed here is excellent, dating back to the 18th century right up to modern day, however I was a little disappointed with the lack of male fashion costume. I would have liked to have seen male fashions from the 30's 40's 50's 60's and 70's. It's not as though the museum doesn't have the room to extend their exhibits, I noticed 2 more floors that could have been utilised for this purpose. I liked the architecture, staircase, rooms and surrounding parkland. It is well worth a visit but one for the ladies I think..

I went to see the First Cut exhibition which is also in Manchester Art Gallery. Here two artists had made clothing and shoes from paper. They were beautiful and ethereal and the exhibition is going to different cities in England and I would reccomend a visit. The other costumes date from as early as mid 17th century up to the 1990s and I recognised some of the styles I wore in the 50s and 60s. However, I feel that the real star is the building itself. Not very interesting from the outside but absolutely beautiful inside, especially the dining room which has not been changed since the building was erected in the 18th century except for the decor. There is a shop with some interesting art books and a small cafe. It is easy to get here from the centre of Manchester as there are numerous buses going past. Well worth a visit.

This is an amazing and intriguing collection of real clothing particularly from the eighteenth century. Fascinating and well presented. If you are in Manchester for whatever reason and have a couple of hours to kill then they will not be wasted here. Close to the University where there are the other really good less known galleries such as the Whitworth Gallery just up the road through Rusholme and the Manchester Museum on the university main drag.

This is an excellent collection of authentic vintage clothing from the 18th century on. It is very rare to see original actually worn during those times. The entrance is free and one can also enjoy the surrounding area, as there are many Indian shops and restaurants. It is very easy to get to, just travel past the university campus on Oxford Road and get off at Platt Fields Park. You will likely only need an hour or so to explore the exhibit, but there are many near by attractions to include in your itinerary, such as the Whitworth Art Gallery and, further north, the Manchester Museum.
