“Great fun for a 6 year-old boy!”

My son and I spent today going around the museum and we were completely enthralled. Who knew that Manchester has its very own T.Rex! We spent ages in the various exhibitions, especially Living Worlds.

On the down side, the cafe was quite disappointing, and the so-called "Lab" area on the top floor was a non-event. The coverage of the new wifi network was patchy, and it twice failed to allow me to download the Living Worlds phone app.

On balance, we will definitely visit again.

“My boys were captivated”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 14, 2011

Just visited the new Living Worlds gallery at the Manchester Museum with my 7 and 10yr old - loved it. We'd never heard of this museum until very recently. Had visited the Manchester science museum a few times and always enjoyed that, but this is a great alternative. Just a little further out of the centre but well worth a trip.

The displays strike a good balance between the typical natural history animals, skeletons, insects, etc and some other interesting ideas like the origami bird display (looks stunning) and the live snakes, chameleons and the leaf frog that took us ages to spot.

Can't fault the facilities or the staff who were very friendly and helpful.

We'll certainly be keeping an eye out for new exhibitions and the Big Saturday events, and visiting again.

I went to the museum to see the ancient Egyptian collection which was amazing. All the other displays are fantastic too. I would recommend this museum to absolutely anybody. The facilities are clean and user friendly and the staff are superb, very professional. A truly magical day out.

“Fun living things exhibit!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2011

The Manchester Museum was a great place to spend a few hours. It is free which adds a lot. They have a nice antiquities area, but it is going to be closed down soon, starting April 2011 I believe, for a year. But there is a lot of other neat stuff to see to. There are real mummies in the Egypt display, dinosaur bones, old coins, and a really fun living things exhibit that house creatures like poisonous frogs, snakes, geckos and things like that. When I was there we were able to pet one of the snakes! Conveniently located near the university and the city center. A must do it you are passing though town. I would go hear before the Museum of Science and Industry.

“Great Free Museum”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 21, 2011

A great museum to visit and it's 100% free! A wide range of different exhibits and enough to keep you amused for a good half a day, normally tend to visit on the weekends when it can be a little quieter in the mornings.

Plenty to see and do for adults and children and keep you both happy and occupied.

Has a nice cafe attached and gift shop too.
