We were lucky enough to be there on a Monday night when they have a jam session. This is more modern jazz but not way out. The backing quartert were very good and the jam part was well organised and we enjoyed hearing the players, singers who sat in. The club itself is very reminiscent of jazz clubs and a very young crowd. Food limited we think to pizza but we didn't eat there.

Night at Matt and Phred's

We were too late to book a table but finally arrived at about 10:45 and didnt have to wait long for one to come free. Good age range form young to old and all dancing.

The entrance fee is reasonable at £5 and drinks were around the average price for a pub. It was good to have a dance - not had the chance in a while.

It is a bit shabby shabby but hey its a Jazz club and an upgrade in interior would mean a hike in prices - so I say "leave it as it is"

Will be going again.

This is a great place to head after a meal or a trip to the theatre. Don't come here if you want a chat though, its always loud!

officially the worst! jazz club in history, the place stinks of urine, the acts are abysmal, it's ridiculously over priced, the staff are more interested in drinking coffee than serving customers, and the customers are treated like 2nd class citizens, please for gods sake spend your money somewhere else

and if u do go in don't touch any of the tables, i think they get cleaned once every ice age

I was looking for some live music for a night out with my partner, and stumbled across Matt and Phred`s on one of the websites. My partner and I had been in a few Jazz clubs in America, so I phoned up and booked a table for our Saturday night trip to Manchester.
After being shown to our seats,we started off with one of their green cocktails, as it was St Patricks day after all. The waitress service was great, but if you fancied a walk to the bar to stretch your legs no problem. Not a bad choice of cocktails, and the wine list was fine. We had already eaten, so I cant comment on the food.
All in all we had a great night, and will go back for sure.
