“5* food and service without any pretentiousness”
Reviewed January 28, 2013

Mon - Sat lunch priced at 2 courses for £10.95. (Brunch menu on a Sunday. Special lunch menu served weekdays until 10pm during Jan 2013.) Bistro style restaurant with crisp table linen. Fish, meat and veggie options. I had the chicken caesar salad followed by the fish of the day which was spaghetti in a creamy smoked haddock sauce with a perfectly poached egg on top. Daughter had the spinach and potato samosas followed by the mushroom risotto. Starter of 2 samosas was actually a bit skimpy: 3 samosas at least guys! If I got three strips of chicken, leaves, shaved parmesan, croutons and dressing then my starter looked like a main course in comparison... (Docked a mark for this but you almost recouped it... see lower down.) Everything was well-cooked, hot and completely delicious. Service was prompt and polite yet not in your face.
Lovely building on the quay. I imagine it would be fab in the summer when you can eat outside.
BTW: recouping the mark. The ladies loo was fab although not exactly easy to get to... The info boards re: Albert on the stairwell were really interesting. All in all four-and-seven-eighths! I wholeheartedly recommend Albert's.

Reviewed January 27, 2013 via mobile

Ah we adore it here! I go all the time! Went the first time on a first date with my new husband and love it here! Service is always great! The staff are well dressed, always smiley and polite!
Great clean place! Fab atmosphere! Good wines, don't think iv ever had a bad meal here! The venison especially is to die for. With blackberry jus! Ahhhhh!

Great for lunches too! It's a great place to go with the girls or a nice date! Nice to sit outside too in the summer and look at the canal! Great location and story behind it!

Can't recommend enough

“Worth a visit”
Reviewed January 26, 2013

we were in Manchester for a show on a wednesday evening and having had the shed recommended to us we decided to give it a try. We had booked a table for 5 30, when we arrived it was fairly quite as you would expect at that time but within half an hour there must have been 30 plus in , a good sign. The decor is very nice, modern and comfortable, the staff were very friendly and attentive without being intrusive. The menu was varied, I chose a capacio of venison with a pineapple salsa which was good but a little sweet for my taste, my wife opted for a rabbit gnochi which soon disappeared. amay main was a monk fish and scallop thai green curry with fragrant rice while my wife went for a more traditional choice of chees and onion pie. Our friends had scallops with black pudding and mains of roasted venison rump which was equally well received. We did not have any wine but chose to stay with beers and coke for the driver, The bill including 2 drinks each but no sweets or coffee was £128 , not cheap but it was a treat. Give it a go

“Excellent meal”
Reviewed January 22, 2013

We called in for an early evening meal and we were not disappointed. My husband had the fish and chips which he thoroughly enjoyed and I had the chicken curry which was delicious. We' ll be going again!
