“What a welcome change to the usual business hotel!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 21, 2010

As I spent a lot of times in business hotels, these 2 days in the Velvet in Manchester were a welcome change. The hotel is situated in the gay village of Manchester, but do NOT let this bother you. The beautifully decorated rooms (and I only saw the standard room!) and the perfect service make this an ideal location to discover Manchester. All attractions are at walking distance. Confort is worth all its stars, we had no problems with street noise (we had a room at the back but above the bar) and both breakfast and dinner were up to our expectations. GO THERE!

Stayed at this hotel for valentines and it was wonderful as it was everything i expected after seeing the photos and more. Got shown to our room by Darren who pointed out how to use everything i.e the lighting, air con, mp3 player etc. He then offered us a complimentary welcome try with tea and biscuits and glass of champagne each because it was valentines.

The room was lovely and we stayed in room 11. There was a mini bar (reasonably priced) hair dryer, ironing board and iron, a jar with boiled sweets in, complimentary slippers, bath robes, luxuary toiletries etc. Everything was spotless, as i was a bit worried after reading a couple of negative reviews on here but everything was in order for me.

The location itself is on canal street (the gay village) so is also pretty much an ideal location to other areas like the northern quarter not too far away etc. In terms of noise, although the noise from outside was to a minimum there was a strange kind of humming noise which i thought must be the air con, but after i turned this off there was still some kind of hum. I'm not a light sleeper so it didn't really bother me. However although there isn't much noise from outside, the walls are really thin inside and the a lady in the next room was making alot of noise (i think she wanted a medal) if you know what i mean on velentines day.

All in alli had a fantastic time and later on we went to the velvet restaurant for dinner (please see review). When we came back they had done a turn down service and because it was valentines day, had left two de-thorned roses and a miniture box of roses on the bed. I would definately go back.

Stayed here for a surprise valentine's trip, it was absolutely fabulous. The service was first class, from the complimentary glasses of fizz on arrival to the roses and chocolates on the bed when we returned from our night out in Chinatown.

Couldn't fault anything about the hotel and we will definitely be back again.

We just returned yesterday from an amazing stay in the The Velvet Hotel in Manchester. From our arrival until departing we were treated in the most attentive fashion. The staff are all lovely, especially Sue. Our room was spotless and the decor has impressed me so much that I intend to replicate it here in our own home. Little touches like fresh roses and chocolates that were left out on turn down service made our stay even more special. We ate in the restaurant on Valentines night and it was reassuring to see the place was full. Dinner was delicious and a fantastic deal at only £60.00 for 5 courses and a glass of champagne. I will be back and I will not hesitate in recommending this gem to anyone who is travelling to Manchester...thanks for a memorable anniversary stay.

Returned home yesterday after spending St Valentines day at Velvets Hotel .My other half had booked it as a suprise .When we arrived we were met by a lovely guy on the reception desk ,as we were early the room wasn,t ready but we left our bags and went off into town to hit the shops .When we returned several hours later we went up to our room which turned out to be the penthouse room number 406 .It really was AMAZEING.It had a down stairs seating area with a table, dining chairs, large tv and abeautiful comfy sofa. There was avery large bathroom with a roll top bath, shower ,double sinks plus some delicious smelling bath goodies.Up a small flight of stairs was the en suite bedroom ,with a huge bed, plenty of hanging space, beautiful decor and yes another large tv on the wall.On the Sunday night we ate in the resturant and had the special valentines dinner, again there was nothing to find fault with ,the food and service was impecible. If i had to find fault at all it would onlybe because i found the room to be very hot even when turn down and i also thought the pillows were too hard ,but having said that ,it was a very very enjoyable couple of days, and will be making a return visit in the very near future

My husband took me to Velvet for Valentine's Night; we stayed here in December for his birthday.
This hotel is amazing, it's always sad to leave.

Charming reception staff; quick check in, within 5 minutes of sitting in room welcome tray and 2 glasses of sparking with strawberries and lime pieces. nice little touches that add to the ambience.

We had a Penthouse again, room 405, with prices like this for a penthouse you cannot say no! Gorgeous rooms, great toiletries, very clean, very modern, perfect little hideaway.

With it being Valentine's, and also Chinese New Year, we wanted a quiet and romantic night in. We ordered room service, and within about 10 minutes the full order arrived! The food was delicious, cocktails sensational.

I will stay here again and again, as I just find it so nice and in such a convenient spot.

I am a very light sleeper, and I slept like a log.

Well done Velvet, we hope to see you again soon xxx

Just got back from Velvet today. Had a lovely time. As soon as we arrived we were promptly shown to our room & the lady who worked there offered to carry our bags. She then asked if we would like a complimentary glass of bubbly each, I was unable to drink so a coffee or tea was offered instead. A member of staff brought them up to our room within 10 minutes, complete with a jar of biscuits (always nice with a cuppa!). Whilst I was in reception I also asked if there was a local Nationwide Building Society, when the guy brought our tray up to the room he'd brought a map of how to get to the bank too. Very helpful and thoughtful. The room was decorated beautifully, lovely black & white picture on the wall, a huge kingsize bed, chandelier and lots of other pretty things. Huge plasma TV on the wall & dvd player which were great because we decided to have a quiet night in with some films. The bathroom was also lovely, huge mirror, rubber duck (a cute idea), ren toiletries & powerfull shower big enough for 2. Minibar was well stocked & not overly priced. The room had a safe, hairdryer, dressing gowns, iron & board, sewing kit and shoe shine. All very handy items. Also complimentary sweets & slippers in the room were a nice touch. Truly enjoyed our stay, was a struggle to get out of the bed in the morning ! We paid £10 for a late check out, it was well worth it. I would definitely recommend Velvet to anyone wanting a relaxing night or two away. Staff were very friendly and helpful and made our stay very enjoyable. Thanks Velvet!
