I booked our stay as a surprise for my husbands birthday. We were greeted with a warm welcome and offered a complimentary drink because our room wasn't quite ready. The gentleman in the restaurant was really friendly and if it weren't for the rest of our plans that evening we could have quite happily sat there and chatted away all night! We were in room 21 and it was lovely! My hubby loved the biscuit jar on the welcome tray! Although the hotel is located on a busy street we weren't disturbed by any noise and the amentites were very good; shower, plenty of plug sockets, iPhone dock etc...
The only thing I wasn't completely happy with was the balloon package as I didn't think it was good value for money. But overall we loved it and will definitely return, thank you!

I stayed one night in July and took one of the suites. It was very comfortable, though there were signs of rather slack maintenance. But what mattered was the noise from the room next door. To be woken up twice by the people in the next room won't do. A pity.

Not sure where to start so will start on arrival, first impressions of the reception staff didn't make us feel very welcomed but that did improve during our 2 night stay. Also don't know why they have to take the £50 card charge on arrival this has been negated though, but didn't think it was necessary. We were expecting something a little different but can't say that we particularly liked the painting on the wall at the bed head a little satanic/gothic/off putting. Also the lighting in the room was a bit dark but apart from that nice little touches but agree with another review if they made the mini bar and hamper prices more reasonable maybe they would sell more. Breakfast was included in our price and it was nice for a change that it went on until 11am, we thought the breakfast choice was very good and the waitress was very helpful and friendly. Again as in other comments sound proofing is not great, got woken up by Amy Winehouse tracks presumably from the next room and someone had set the alarm to go off at 6.15am in our room, which we forgot to try to cancel so were woken up again the next morning!!! Loved the party atmosphere along Canal Street and would definitely go back there for a night out but wouldn't rush to go back to the Velvet

Room Tip: Probably top floor would have less noise

I stayed overnight on a monday, traveling for business. The room is very comfortable and unique. The staff were very very helpful, carries bags, brought tray with milk, ice, biscuits etc. bed was turned down.
WiFi was good speed. Bathroom clean and good shower. Ren toilletries were supplied, good if required.
I think the noise may be an issue due to the stripped back design of flooring etc, and I would guess at weekend or peak times this may be an issue for some people.
I ate in the restaurant in the vening an can't fault the food or service.
I would stay here again as it's not a faceless chain and they put a lot of thought effort and care in to the hotel and the service they provide.

We booked this hotel for 2 nights, a Sunday and a Monday for our anniversary. We knew the hotel was in the middle of Canal Street but being a fairly broad minded 50+ couple! and as it is part of the Mr and Mrs Smith group of hotels, we were looking forward to something a little different and quirky. The hotel itself is beautiful, rooms are modern with amazing bathroom. Yes, lighting is poor for applying make up but no massive problem. We'd upgraded to a balcony room as I smoke, and it was great, with heater and wall mounted candle. When we were taken to our room we were asked if we wanted tea and coffee but said we didn't, the man then disappeared saying he was off to get our courtesy tray. Thought nothing of it until the next morning when we didn't have milk or sugar to make a drink, at which point he swore blind he'd brought it us the day before! That aside, the hotel was still lovely. What we couldn't put up with was the noise, not from outside, but inside the hotel, all day and all night! You could hear every step from upstairs and people slamming doors, laughing, talking, screeching etc. in rooms next to us. At 3am, my husband was ready to go home! I think the hotels location makes it a party hotel, so not suited to us oldies wanting to be asleep before midnight. What a shame as the hotel itself is everything we wanted.

This place is incredibly comfortable, welcoming, luxurious, friendly, quirky and I love it. Best part is the restaurant toilets. Not going to spoil it for you - check it out. I'd stay here again in a heartbeat. Extremely close to the train station - Well within bag dragging distance. I don't think it's possible to be disappointed with this property.

Room Tip: Something tells me these are ALL good rooms.
