“Lovely lunch”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 17, 2013

As always the food here is spot on, choosing the 2-course for £13.95 option. Food and service were great, for me notably the whitebait and squid which can too easily be done poorly - here it was perfect. All four of us thoroughly enjoyed the choices, which were good for vegetarian too. Lovely bottle of wine made it a perfect lunch. Nice smart casual bistro feel. Definitely will be returning!

“Lively restaurant, excellent service and food”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 13, 2013

This restuarant is welcoming from the moment you arrive. Looking a little like a bar with tables from the outside, both the food and service are high restaurant quality. We ate from both the A La Carte menu and the set menu (available until 7pm) which had two courses for just £13.95. There is also a three course option at just a little bit more. The A La Carte menu is a little more pricey, but main courses are around £10.95 - £18. So even at full price it's good value. Our bill for two main courses, a side order of chips, desserts, two glasses of wine and water was just over £47. The main course of pork ribs from the main menu are delicious with a sticky, thick sauce and plenty of meat on the bone. The vegetarian filo parcels from the main menu at £10.95 were a generous protion and equally tasty. The dessert menu was so good we skipped starters to make sure we had room. The sticky toffee pudding and individual apple and ginger crumble, both with vanilla ice cream were great decisions. We visited on a busy Saturday evening, but had fantastic service which was both friendly and efficient. The one negative is just one ladies toilet, which can mean a queue at busy times. However, that won't stop us visiting again.

“Excellent food, somewhat slow service”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 28, 2013

Went again to this, my favourite restaurant in Manchester, last night with a couple of friends. Everyone was impressed with the food. It was absolutely delicious from start to finish - lamb cooked just right, and a sticky toffee pudding that virtually sent us to heaven and back. One person thought it was even better than the famous Cartmel pudding! The restaurant had a good atmosphere, being about two-thirds full, and was nice and warm.

One star knocked off to reflect the somewhat slow service - it wasn't quite slow enough to be annoying, but certainly enough to wonder why it was taking so long, given that the restaurant wasn't full. We have had a lot of this recently, and I wonder why. Is it a question of waiters simply not keeping an eye on their tables? Also because we ate off the a la carte menu, prices were a bit higher than what I'm used to - just over £35 each including wine. Not a rip off by any means, but not quite the value for money afforded by the lunch menu, which runs until 7 and is only about £17 for 3 courses. Nonetheless, I would not hesitate to recommend this restaurant to anybody, and my friends were very impressed.

“One of my favourite places to eat in Manchester”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 27, 2013

I go to this restaurant on an irregular basis, but do try to go at least a couple of times a year, especially when it is a special occasion. Last time was when I had two friends from Germany staying and they were very impressed with the quality of the food, especially the desserts.
