The Light Apparthotel is a venue that doesn't quite live up to its slick marketing. We had to remove hair from a clean bath towel, the toilet seat was cracked and the complimentary wifi didn't work. Staff attitudes varied from helpful, assisting with an early check-in, to reluctant and obstructive. True it has a central location, but it is not one which we will be returning to. It's only redeeming feature is proximity to Leo's amazing fish & chips for a late night snack and Teacup on Thomas street for a scrumptious brunch.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review the ApartHotel on tripadvisor, I am at a loss to explain what happened during your visit through the vague information and would like to assure you that it is not the norm at The Light as we receive many compliments on tripadvisor and direct in relation to cleanliness etc

As such I have sent you a private message to discuss your stay in more detail.

Many Thanks

There was a group of 9 of us staying for a hen party so we booked 2 apartments (through two different websites for the best rates) a 5 bed and a 4 bed which were both beautifully decorated and spacious. We had a few minor problems with bathroom lights not working and turning some appliances on in the kitchen but the maintenance team were with us within minutes and sorted the problems quickly. One slight flaw in the design is that there was no plugs in our room to use our hairdryer altough the guys at reception sent us an extension lead to help which was fine.

The team at reception were fun and very helpful and even assisted us with taking pictures, booking taxis, takeaway menus on our return at night and early check in /bag storage on checkout. Great staff who made the stay very easy and enjoyable.

The location is excellent, just behind debenhams on the main street and just a 5 minute walk to the northern quarter bars and restaurants in the evening. We also had an excellent view from the balcony.

All in all a great stay, recomended for larger groups!

The apartments at The Light are amazing! They're clean, modern and spacious. I stayed in a 2 bedroom apartment with an en suite bathroom and a balcony overlooking the city. I also had access to an on-site gym. Did I mention?,,The hotel/apartments are located right in the center of the city! In addition, the price was so reasonable. I'd definitely stay there again!

--- At 4AM on Saturday night our downstairs neighbours decided to have an afterparty in their apartment with blaring music. After complaining at the reception we got told that it's probably from one of the private apartments in the building. The music stopped after 15 min after an intervention from the receptionist.

During any other week night, everything has been peaceful and quiet tho!

At the end I wouldn't advise against staying there, just be aware of what I've written above.

Room Tip: Don't stay too close to private apartments in the building. Probably you should be as high as po...

Dear Guest,

Thank you for your kind comments I am glad to see that you enjoyed the service which our reception team provide and our facilities.

As we are a city centre ApartHotel we have guests from all walks of life staying with us at any given time and sometimes leads to noise by guests entering/leaving the ApartHotel. I am happy that the reception team were able to interject when the noise levels were relayed to us and were able to resolve the issue at the time.

We hope to welcome you back again

We stayed here with another couple at the beginning of April. It was so much better then trying to share a hotel room. It's in a good location and easy to get to. There's a tv in every room, a dishwasher in the kitchen and a good size fridge and freezer. While the bedrooms weren't super spaciously (only one had room for a wardrobe) they weren't tiny. The view was fantastic from our room! Also free wifi!

However....it was freezing! There was a radiator in each bedroom and....that was it! we finally located a portable heater in the utility closet, but there is only one outlet in the living room/kitchen that is useful. And that is behind the dining table, there's no place to plug in the heater where it's out of the way but not blocked. We ended up turning all the radiators on and the heater to full blast. a few hours later and it was tolerable, but the bathroom (and it's floor) was still cold. Perhaps there should be two portable heaters, so you can heat the hallway by the bathroom and the livingroom (i'm still baffled that there was no radiator in the livingroom)

There is a what looks like a towel warmer in the bathroom but we couldn't figure out how to turn it on.

The light switches are in awkward spots, why not have the kitchen switch in the kitchen instead out in the hallway?

The balcony door took us a while to figure out.

The tea and coffee never was refilled (I understand they aren't going to clean our room everyday, but maybe just leave a little baggy of tea/coffee/sugar on the door handle?) we took some off the housekeeping trolly

no ipod dock

The glass wall that blocks the shower doesn't move, and it's not wide enough to actually block water. It will block the water with no one in the shower, but once you get in and start to wash water goes everywhere

And yes only one bedroom has a window. the other has a mock frosted window that always seems to have light coming through and inadequate vertical blinds to block the light.

Why the four stars after all the complaints? I know there isn't a lot they can do to fix some of these mistakes. This place was built to be actual apartments and is now part hotel, so things like light switches aren't going to be moved. And visiting in the warmer months would probably cure the heating problem.

They can (and I hope they do) replace the shower "door", get better curtains for that fake window, replace the tea service on a daily basis or have a self service for people to do it themselves, ipod docking station or at least an alarm clock with that capability and maybe turn the heat on if you know people will be checking in.

Also, some drunks also broke one of the elevators while we were there after that they tried fixing it as quickly as possible and had someone riding the elevator at night to make sure no one else coming back from the bar broke the other one. Unfortunately something did happen and for a day we had to take a 10 minute trip up and down the stairs. This wasn't their fault and they really were doing all they could.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review the ApartHotel and the positive comments with regards to the facilities in your apartment.

I am sorry to hear that you had trouble with the heating systems in your apartment; our housekeeping team will always ensure that the heaters are switched on a low setting ready for a guest arrival which then gives you the option to adjust the temperature to your preference, if you are at all struggling though, please do not hesitate to contact the 24 hour reception.

From your description of the apartment which you occupied it appears that you had booked one of our deluxe apartments; for future reference if you would like a larger apartment with a wardrobe in each bedroom, ensuite and large integrated kitchen/living space I would recommend the executive apartments or if you would prefer a room with an iPod dock all of our penthouse suites have them as standard.

Like most ApartHotel’s we are self-catering; we do offer tea & coffee supplies upon your arrival unlike most where you have to provide your own. Our reception team are on hand 24 hours a day and would have gladly given you more upon request.

I will pass your comments regarding the shower screen to our maintenance team for investigation and would once again like to thank you for your review.

Perfect location with being only a few minutes walk from Piccadilly train station and central enough to be in access to all major venues, restaurants bars etc on the edge of the funky and cool Northern Quarter of the City. Working in Manchester for nearly 3 months I had stayed in hotels and other apartments across the city until I found Light- none of the others matched up to the quality, level of service or overall experience to that offered here. In my two months of weekday stays (and occasional weekends) I have stayed in a fair few of the apartments available here and all of them were of great standard-contemporary decoration, design and furniture. WIth the chic styling also comes comfort and high spec ammenities within each one including flat screen TV's, washer dryer etc. The reception and management team have delivered above and beyond my service level expectations and with it have been personable, friendly and considerate of my needs here as a visitor- I have left each time feeling hosted as a genuine guest.

Room Tip: Every apartment I was allocated into was bright, roomy, clean, comfortable and stylishly decorated.

We stayed here for a bank holiday night out in Manchester. The apartments are lovely, very clean, tidy and modern and have everything you could need! The only down side were the lifts, take the stairs no matter what floor you are on as you'll be waiting all day for the lift to come. At a great price we will certainly be staying here again and would recommend it to everyone.

Dear Guest,

Thank you for taking the time to review us on tripadvisor.

I am pleased to hear that you enjoyed your visit to the ApartHotel and will ensure your comments regarding the cleanliness are passed to our housekeeping team.

We are aware of the issues with the elevators; which we are please to say are being refurbished/replaced in the near future we are just waiting for the lift maintenance company to order/fabricate the required parts.
