Four of us arrived at Al Nawaz on a Thursday night around 19:00, and after ordering our starters we waited over an hour for them to arrive. Despite reminding the waiter we received no apology. Other people who arrived at a similar time to us had finished their meal and left before we'd even eaten anything.

A similar situation then happened with the main meal. and it was 10:30 by the time the main came, again with no apology. when we came to pay we said that we didn't think it was right to pay for the food as the service had been so awful. At this point an arguement started with the staff which spilled out onto the pavement. Again no apology was issued for the wait we had and they would not offer any discount at all on the food and expected us to pay for everything, which we still refused to do.

The upshot of this was that over the following week I wrote twice to the restaurant (addressing the letter to "the manager"), and received no reply or phone call or anything.

This restaurant clearly are not bothered about customer service, and clearly don't care if customers never come back.

All in all the worst dining expereince we had ever experienced.

We arrived early as we were off to a gig at the O2. No-one else was in so expected tip top service. Had just been decorated inside so we commented on it. Waiter told us 'no it hasn't'. Wiped up drips of paint on the carpet and a slight smell of paint suggested otherwise lol. First thing they did was bring over popodums and pickles (they weren't free). We didnt ask for them. Ok we did want them but that's not the point. Next we asked if they cooked with ghee or oil. They had to go and check - not very reassuring. We ordered our starters and mains. Took about 20 mins to bring starters. The starters were ok, not amazing but acceptable. 25 minutes later we got our mains. I ordered king prawn 'sizzler' and my GF ordered chicked vindaloo.
The garlin naan arrived dripping in garlic butter. Had to send it back. They didn't listen did they?My prawns came on platter but there was no sizzle, just some prawns on a plate. They were overcooked and tasteless. Good job I had the sauce to pour over. Disappointing. The chicken vindaloo came with four chunks of chicken in a boring sauce. It looked and tasted like smooth tinned tomatoes with a liberal amount of spice. There were no other ingredients in the sauce like onions, chillies, pepper etc. There was no kick to the sauce it should have been fiery being vindaloo. I normally can't tolerate it but this was about balti strength. Very disappointing.
I won't be going back there especially when there's so much choice all around.

I have been to Al Nawaz twice now and the quality of the food did not change from my first visit. I agree with the previous two reviews: There is no atmosphere and the interior looks like very basic. Yes, there are some flaws talking about the upkeeping of the restaurant, but that shouldn't ruin your stay. Going to an Indian Restaurant at the Curry Mile in Manchester should rather be about the food -- and that is exactly where Al Nawaz scores. You'll get outstanding food for a very reasonable price, each meal is so far has been absolutely delicious. Additionally it's always good fun to watch how the staff tries to get other random people from the streets into the restaurant, lovely! ;-) I will most certainly come back!

Xmas napkins well after the Xmas period, tables and toilets not exactly pristine, this restaurant reeks with comedy factor. It looks a bit like a conference room at a 2 star hotel, apparently there used to be a stage there with a magician on, no sign of that now. My meal was ok, a veggie madras, but not mind-blowing. Word of warning- they don't accept card, but there is a hole in the wall in the restaurant which charges £2. It's worth a visit just to see the fish tank built into the floor at the entrance!
