“Nice Thai restaurant”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 8, 2013

Visited Chaophraya for the first time and was not disappointed. We arrived on time and were shown straight to our table which was upstairs a couple of tables away from the open kitchen. I had the scallops and black pudding not very Thai but very tasty although the scallops could have been a bit warmer, my wife had the chicken satay which brought back memories our holidays in Thailand and Bali, it was delicious. For the mains my wife had the weeping tiger which was excellent and I had the chicken pad Thai which was also very good. The portions were generous and we both struggled to finish our meals. The staff were attentive at all times and very friendly. Despite some of the comments we didn't find it too expensive just good value for money. The only criticisms are that the upstairs area is not very intimate and we were sat on top of people which is not what you would expect from a top class restaurant and charging £3.75 for a bottle of water. All in all though it was very enjoyable and we'll definitely be eating there again soon.

“Expensive but worth it...”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

I do have to admit, as much as I like the atmosphere and the food Chaophraya can be a little pretentious and over priced... that said I keep on going!

Food is indeed expensive, but I've yet to have a bad meal. The service is excellent and willing to take requests to adjust the menu dishes. The dishes themselves have been top quality and I've only ever had one better thai meal...

Would recommend and continue going, but as I keep saying, it is expensive for what you get...

“Great food, great service”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 3, 2013

We arrived at this restaurant as a group of seven without a booking, and only had to wait for a short time in the bar area before being seated.

The server was very knowledgeable about what was suitable for coeliacs and double checked with the kitchen to be sure. I had Ped Makham (Duck Tamarind) and wow it was great! If you like sweet Thai dishes this will be up your street - and there was so much duck I left a fair bit despite it being late and having not eaten all day.

Everything about the restaurant was extremely beautiful - they seated us at a sunken table surrounded by crystals hanging from the ceiling and floaty curtains, which felt really special and opulent. And the server was just the right combination of attentive but not intrusive.

I'll definitely be paying a visit to the Edinburgh restaurant and hope for more of the same!

“Gone down hill since last time...!! Expensive for stingy portions.”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed September 1, 2013

Have eaten at this Chaophraya once before for a special occasion and it was a fantastic experience and the food was excellent. THIS TIME the food was average for the the expensive price charged and everything seemed hurried to get you in and out quickly to free the table.
Food : The Thai Green Chicken Curry was tasty, but was spoilt by the lack of Chicken it contained. It probably had less then a third of a Chicken breast in and only a couple of slices of vegetables, so it was mostly liquid, so seemed more like a soup. The Asian Platter starter again tasty but spoilt as the portion was tiny for the £20 price.
