Silk Mill Cottage was just amazing. Would give 6 stars if I could. It was everything I hoped for and more. Clean, very comfortable and absolutely lovely. Our family of 6 (2A, 4 kids) stayed here for 6 nights last month. It was, by far, the best place we stayed in during our entire vacation in England. The cottage was very well equipped, with everything you would need. The hosts even provided washing detergent, fresh milk and a box of candy as a welcome. Everything worked well and staying here was such a stress-free and enjoyable experience. The whole family didn't want to leave!
Chipping Campden itself is a good village as a base for the Cotswolds in the South, while Stratford-Upon-Avon and Warwick are nearby in the North. It's also a nice village that's quiet and peaceful, yet has enough amenities to be convenient.
Andy, who manages the property, was very responsive and helpful from the time we booked till we checked out. Thank you so much for the delicious Victoria Sponge too!
What a treat, we hope to return one day!
My family (Mom/Dad and 3 adult kids) from Washington, DC area stayed at Silk Mill Cottage one year ago. I forgot to review it when we returned from our trip, but we were just reminiscing about our wonderful stay at Silk Mill, so I had to add my review now (and yes, we are still talking about the cottage)! I think it sums it up when we arrived from London after 6 very busy days and we opened the door to the Cottage and all of us just said WOW! It was everything we imagined and more. Spotlessly clean and so charming. Terrific location. We explored most of the Cotswold villages from this base. Right in Chipping Campden with restaurants and shops close by. Loved having the coffee shop next door. We had everything we needed, house is so well-equipped. Bedrooms worked well and were comfortable. We had a fire with logs provided and enjoyed the gift of the cake (thank you)!. We also had some lovely afternoons in the garden, resting after a long day of sightseeing. Reservations were so easy to make. You won't be disappointed, only charmed, if you stay at Silk Mill. Sorry it took so long for the review. We dream of coming back.
If there is one improvement needed at Silk Mill cottage, I challenge anyone to find it. This was our second time staying there, and again, we found the cleanliness, charm, interior design, comfort, location, and attention to kitchen tools exceptional. We thoroughly enjoyed Chipping Campden, and the ease of staying in a spot so quiet yet close to everything was grand. BRAVO to such a charming restoration and Honey Pot management!
We can not recommend Silk Mill Cottage highly enough! The house was charming, perfectly appointed, and spotless; the owners were responsive, accommodating, and friendly; the location was convenient, easily walkable to restaurants and shopping, but still quiet and private. We stayed at Silk Mill for a week with our two teenagers, and the house was the perfect size for our family - plenty of space for everyone, comfortable, and cozy. We used it as a base for touring the Cotswolds, and also going farther afield to Bath, Windsor, Stratford, and Stonehenge, and enjoyed coming home every evening and walking to dinner in the town. This was a perfect rental experience and a vacation that lived up to every expectation. We were so enthusiastic upon our return that my sister and her family have just booked the cottage for a trip in the spring!
What a wonderful experience. We are a family from Australia and the cottage was even better in real life. The hosts were able to organise a food hamper for us and a beautiful cake on arrival. The village and surrounds are beautiful and the cottage is clean, spacious and well equipped. Would totally recommend this as a great find in the country.
A very well renovated cottage very close to the heart of Chipping Campden. The cottage comes with two parking spaces, absolutely invaluable in Chipping. The cottage is extremely cosy and comfortable and comes with everything you need for a great stay. Will definitely go back for our next visit to the Cotswolds.
Silk Mill Cottage felt like home the moment we walked in and I can quite honestly say it was the best holiday rental I've ever stayed in, with everything you need in a beautifully decorated cottage. It truly felt like we were staying in someone's home rather than a rental. With a good sized open-plan space on the ground floor and a very pretty small garden out the front (which is visible through the kitchen windows), there was more than enough room for the 4 of us to rumble around without getting in each others way. (We didn't use the small area outside of the back of the cottage). The kitchen was fitted out exceptionally well, and has a separate washer and drier, as well as a small bit of hanging space which was enough for one load of washing for the 4 of us in July temperatures.
Upstairs the bedrooms are small but lovely, and if I had one thing I'd like to change it would be the bed in the master - it was too small for the two of us and we're not big people - but there's no room there for a bigger bed. So I think if we were to stay here again we'd see if the twin beds can be zipped together in the centre bedroom and put one of the kids in the master and the other in the small end room.
The bathrooms were lovely, well appointed, with rather amusing mirrors that have sensor lights behind the glass. The smallest bedroom is really only big enough for a child under 12, or a spot to pop the cot (there was a travel cot in the corner of the room). Our 8 year old loved it and said it felt like sleeping in the rafters. We all slept very well.
The cottage is a quick walk into town (whether you go through the old mill or around it) where there are a great range of pubs, cafes and restaurants. There are only a couple of small convenience size supermarkets in the town (which is fine for the essentials), but if you're around during the day there is a good grocer and deli store. We didn't see the butcher open while we were there so we're not sure if it's still going. There are a couple of local farm shops near the village, but sorry we seemed to keep missing their opening times and didn't go in.
The great thing about Chipping Campden is that it isn't as touristy and full of tourists as Broadway, Stow-on-the-wold or Bourton on the water, but there are still plenty of things there to see and do, as well as plenty to see nearby.
The house is tucked away nicely behind the old mill and beside a nursing home. It is very very quiet. I think the only thing that woke us one morning was a car alarm somewhere far far in the distance.
Highly recommended as a lovely spot to really relax and enjoy the beautiful Cotswolds. But just a note that this isn't a property for anyone who is mobility impaired or has difficulty on gravel, going up stairs or showering in a small space.
