“Armthorpe, Turkish Quarter of Doncaster?”
Reviewed October 26, 2013 via mobile

Great atmosphere and superb friendly staff made for an enjoyable evening. A group of belly dancers out for a private meal entertained with their array of dances. Food good but not outstanding. Limited dessert menu. Prices about average.

“Fantastic”
Reviewed August 29, 2013 via mobile

Took my dad here for his 88th birthday with other family members. As a family we spent many years living in Cyprus so we all enjoy Greek food and hospitality. Something Doncaster lacks. From the minute we walked through the door we were made welcome and all the staff made a fuss of my dad. We had the set meal and the food was amazing. It was all served fresh and hot. There was far to much for us all to eat. Food and music was very authentic. Will defiantly go again.

“Excellent Fun Night Out”
Reviewed August 10, 2013

This restaurant is relatively small and intimate with a great family feel and welcome from the staff. There was a good choice of food and we plumped for the set meal of various meze/tapas dishes. These came beautifully presented and excellently cooked and were absolutely delicious.
Prices are very reasonable for the food and the attention you get in this restaurant.

However, people with an introverted disposition should probably make sure they visit this restaurant on a day/time when there is no entertainment. We went on a Saturday and there was a belly dancer performing. This soon turned into various female eaters in the restaurant being asked to join in and towards the end of our meal most of the restaurant were up on their feet joining in the staff doing traditional turkish dances.

Please visit this restaurant - I am sure you will love both the food and the atmosphere!!

“Unexpectedly authentic”
Reviewed August 2, 2013

We missed my wife's normal birthday meal out with the kids (adults) so decided to give this a go before they all went on their respective holidays. I'm a bit of a 'doubter' when it comes to certain restaurants or places but was persuaded to go (given no option in other words). Glad it worked out this way.

It's strange but sometimes you can visit places abroad and they just lack authenticity - could be any restaurant anywhere in the world. AkDeniz however manages to deliver an authentic feel and experience and along with the food that makes it a real find.

We ordered a mezze starter for my wife and I and the 'kids' had a few starters between them. All were really nice and freshly prepared. The mezze was made up of around eleven tapas style cold dishes and all good. Once we'd finished that (and were feeling pleasantly full) they brought us a hot dish containing sardines, calamari, haloumi and salad; took us by surprise really.

The main courses were great and with hindsight the mezze was probably too much. My son wanted a steak and the waiter said they had fillets available which weren't on the menu. he ordered a fillet with a cheese sauce on the side. It cost around £17 and was (apparently) superb - not the 'filet mignon' you get at some higher end establishments but a real, middle cut, thick fillet cooked just as requested. It came with sauteed potatoes and veg so again, not being forced to buy veg on the side.

All great food, great service and, as I've already said, maintains that authentic feel.

The chef came at the end to talk to us, have a laugh and wanted to know if we'd enjoyed the food. Took our feedback well, including my obligatory advice (for which the kids told me off) and came across as genuinely wanting people to enjoy the experience.

Not fine dining, but definitely great dining and very enjoyable.

“A friendly restaurant with good food”
Reviewed July 31, 2013

AkDeniz is a lovely little restaurant located at the meeting of Armthorpe and Doncaster, staffed with some of the friendliest staff I have ever met.
The food is very tasty, and while marketed as Greek, it's really more Turkish, and the beer selection including Efes carries on the trend. The usual a la carte menu is a tad pricey for Doncaster, but what you get for your money is some of the best Greek/Turkish food in Doncaster, in a stylish and friendly setting.
There is a buffet night on Wednesdays for £10 a head, which I highly recommend. The default buffet food selection is a bit limited for vegetarians, but the last time I went with some vegetarian friends, the proprietor cooked us some grilled halloumi cheese for the veggies at no extra charge!
There is also periodically a band and belly dancer there, the dates vary but you can always call up to check when the next one is.
