Owner description: See the network of underground canal routes that helped form the industrial Black Country and marvel at the fantastic Limestone Caverns. Enjoy a canalside walk or relaxing boat trip, and admire the local history. See if you can spot any of the limestone fossils remaining from when the area was below sea, and explore the Dudley Tunnel - don't be startled by the bats!

“Dudley's hidden gem”

Great trip, very interesting, shame they kill God in the film show but a very good 3/4 hour. they do longer trips occasionally that sound really good as well.
Can be a part of a day at the Black Country Museum but an excellent stand alone trip and well worth it.

“Really worth it”
Reviewed November 18, 2013

I went with my family on a trip and all of us (from an 18 year old boy to an 68 years old man) enjoyed it very much. It is really something special and unusual to go by boat on the canal through tunnels, small open areas and caves.

In my opinion it is worth every penny. It is a non-profit operation so the money will be used to discover more.

A trip will take 45 minutes. I read in summer time there are even longer ones but unfortunately not in winter. I think that's a pity. We would have loved to take a 2 hours tour but obviously it's not that popular in winter. Our boat was quite full but still enough space for everyone. We went a few days ago when it was quite cold and cloudy but it didn't rain and with a warm jacket it's not a problem at all.

“a must see trip”
Reviewed November 14, 2013 via mobile

arrived in the morning purchased our tickets and had a small wait. in that time Mark the tour guide came and spoke with us and told us what to expect and recommended other places to visit after our trip. ( a man clearly proud of what he does and where he comes from)

got on the boat and went through the tunnels with Mark telling all there is to know.
wrap up warm and enjoy

“A great trip”
Reviewed October 30, 2013

The 45 minute tour we had on this canal barge was most interesting. The tour guide , Phil, was great...with just the right balance between light hearted banter and fascinating , informative commentary.
The tour covers canals, mines and open basins, and includes a short film.Highly recommended for a great experience!

“Into the Depths…..”
Reviewed October 28, 2013

This is a most unusual tour that takes you through canal tunnels and into old mine working that used the canals for transport. If you can, volunteer and have a go at 'legging' the boat through the tunnel. The main way to reach this attraction is from the Black Country LIving Museum, itself well worth a full day's visit.

Thank you for your review. We’re pleased that you enjoyed your visit and found our tunnels and mines so interesting. We’re also glad you had fun ‘legging’! It is possible to get to us from the Black Country Museum, but we also have a main entrance on the Birmingham New Road with new car park and visitor centre. Please do come and visit us again soon.
