Owner description: See the network of underground canal routes that helped form the industrial Black Country and marvel at the fantastic Limestone Caverns. Enjoy a canalside walk or relaxing boat trip, and admire the local history. See if you can spot any of the limestone fossils remaining from when the area was below sea, and explore the Dudley Tunnel - don't be startled by the bats!

“Discover what lies beneath”
Reviewed October 22, 2012

We had moored our boat on the visitor moorings at the back of the BCM. Being boaters the thought of a tunnel is intriguing as they are all so very different. The Dudley Canal Tunnels are unique to say the least. The very fact that these vast tunnels and huge caverns are man made make them even more awe inspiring. Definitely the best attractions we have been to for a long time and we've seen a good many tunnels during our years on the cut. Can't wait for our Grandson to be old enough to visit Santa. We've seen where he hides his sleigh. He's getting ready so be good folks. Thanks to Mark for an excellent guided tour. Who knows maybe we will be back to use the Caverns for a family wedding.

“Canal Trip”
Reviewed October 19, 2012

Just wanted to add to the positive comments about this canal trip, well worth it. I first enjoyed this attraction some years ago when you could only access it via the Black Country Museum. However, you can now visit this attraction on it's own, it has it's own entrance! at just over 5.00 per adult it made it far more affordable to everyone.
Our day trip to the Black Country consisted of a trip to Half Penny Green craft & Falconry Center with breakfast in their cafe restaurant, Boat trip on the canal, and dinner at the Crooked House at Himley .. all within a 10 mile radius of each.. thoroughly enjoyed it.

“Fascinating trip - undersold - well worth the money.”

40 minutes on an open narrowboat going through tunnels and caverns left by limestone mining under Dudley. Fascinating views of mining and tunnelling. Music and video shows inside the tunnels. Amusing and knowledgable commentary.

“Wonderful waterways of history”
Reviewed October 7, 2012

We loved going on the Dudley Canal. The tour guide was knowledgable and friendly. Our young children were fascinated and thrilled when we came out into the 'jungle' where ferns clung to the walls and ivy vines hung low over the tunnel exit.
Towards the end of the tour we learned about 'legging it' and even got the chance to do it ourselves. Brilliant fun (too bad we forgot to get the certificate at the end!). It was cool and damp during our visit - and inside the tunnels even more so - bundle up!
As it is a charity, I hope that people will take the opportunity to go on the canal - you won't be disappointed.
Again, great for young children if they are not afraid of the dark.
