“Cannot be faulted! Best pub around!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 24, 2013

This is my new favourite pub, the food is amazing, service is fantastic and I just love how charming the place is. I've eaten here 3 times now and I've never Been disappointed. Fresh homemade food. Papers on a Sunday with a glass of wine! Total heaven :)

“Quirky little find”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 21, 2013

Came here after being recommended to visit as part of our trip around the midlands. We were not dissappointed, it was very quirky, but it makes your feel slightly disorientated in the bar area.

The restaurant side is not as crooked but just aswell really as it could make some feel slightly uncomfortable. We had 2course sunday lunch menu, and had the opportunity to try some local fayre which was lovely fur an extra few £ you could have 3 course but the posting are quite generous and we couldn't fit in a pudding with out the need for a nap before we left lol.

there isn't very much in the local area and it's down very narrow country lane but is worth a visit and we hope to return again on our next visit that way :)

“Awful food with no apology”
1 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 16, 2013

I want to keep this short and to the point. The waitresses were very polite and pleasant, however the food was shockingly bad. The home made faggots were awful almost as if they were just made from blitzed Liver that was then shaped into balls and severely over cooked without seasoning. The gravy was tasteless and watery. The other meals were equally as terrible. The fish and chips was almost inedible due to the amount of grease from the batter, and the fish was dry and bland. The child's Ciabatta Pizza was like no other kids pizza.... the usual tomato base of a pizza had been replaced by a sauce that had chunky Peppers, Aubergines, Mushrooms, Onions,(and some kind of meat!!!) smothered by a cheddar cheese. This tasted awful and the fries that it came with were cold and the beans not cooked properly. Needless to say we did not eat our meals but once we complained i received not so much as a "sorry", but instead a bill of nearly £45. When I complained again, I still did not receive an apology but was met with phrases such as "well that's how we get your child's 5 a day in to them", and telling me that I was wrong about the Faggots. The greasy fish was almost accepted as a given and when i asked for something to be done i was told that i'd be given a 10% discount off the food and that was all he could do without speaking to the owners who "were much to busy to come out as they were in the kitchen cooking". Once we left my son played in the playground which was rotting and in my opinion not safe for kids and then the animals they kept were dirty, over crowded and needing a lot of attention.
Shame that the food was very very bad, the dealing of my complaint was the worst customer service i've seen for years, and the outdoor facilities in the garden need TLC, money and renewing. I will NEVER be going back.

“Where the "erl" runs up the bar”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 14, 2013

Great visit to the crooked house, or "Sined" house>as called by the locals,>Sined -meaning crooked,
we visited with friends who had never been but had heard of the crooked house,
It really is shocking when you see the pub from the outside, it looks like it is sliding into the ground, great photo's can be taken of it.
When we arrived , we were very lucky, because the weather had been awful a real cloud burst, then suddenly the sun was out, this meant there were not many people in the pub,
We were all laughing going in, as the entrance being well -er -crooked, makes you feel as if you have had a drink already, or as if walking on a tilting ship, of course a couple of the men were clowning, hanging onto shelves pulling themselves in, but we laughed throughout the visit, which makes for good memories.
Theres a good range of real ales, er i mean "erl's" and the usual lager's , cider's etc.
we were too early for the resturant, so happily settled for a bar meal, these were not the run of the mill, all of us had something different, my ciabatta, of ham chicken and cheese toasted , with crooked chips and salad, beat me, I couldn't finish it all, it was so filling, but it was really tasty.
There's plenty of photo's on the walls telling the history of the crooked house, and photo's of it before it became crooked, the staff are friendly but not intrusive, the meals didnt take too long, and were served to us nicely, the staff will chat about the pub quite willingly, mind our visit wasn't at a busy time, so bear that in mind, if the place is hopping, as they say.
The crooked House is in a lovely setting, plenty of outdoor seating, there's a play area for children, and a few farm animals to see.
I would suggest people go week days if possible, as you can really have a good look around, be aware the resturant closes at 2.30pm, re-opening at 6pm, but the bar food is available all day till 11pm, with a variety of hot and cold sandwiches, or fish & chips >(fish cooked in beer batter} , not forgetting the black country special of {faggots and pays>(peas)} with crookedchips, or steak cut chips.plenty of choice to fill you up. The resturant offers more set meals of course, we couldn't stay till it opened, wasn't fair on the driver, who loves real "erl's" ales lol.
we are considering getting a minibus, to do a tour around because the countryside around Himley, and the blackcountry is a lovely scenic drive, we can then get to the crooked house and eat in the resturant, which by the standard of bar meals must be excellent, so visit, well worth it, especially week days.

“Ignorant disorganized staff”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2013

The restaurant wasn't even half full, and was told to come back in half an hour ???????, Returned half hour later, was shown to our table but then completely ignored for 20 mins, Once we was given a menu left again for 25 mins, we had to ask someone if they would like us to order ?. staff were taking so long making simple drinks and didn't seem to be bothered with the customers. two tables had to go to the bar because they was so slow. One waitress came in from the kitchen and told the other waiter his table order was ready even though he was busy, why couldn't she bring it through herself. With lots of empty tables, people turned away because they were full ???????. The quickest service we received was the bill and card machine !!!!!!!!!!. Good food but terrible service worst i have ever known.
